George Clooney OMEGA ambassador

Omega unveils new Speedmaster collection in an unforgettable evening brought to life inside an aircraft hangar, graced by brand ambassador George Clooney, Lynn Wyatt and more.

The year 1969 will now and always be remembered as the year man first set foot on the moon, changing the game of space exploration – and history – forever. Who could forget that accompanying Neil Armstrong and his spacemen were Omega Speedmaster watches, strapped to their wrists to tell time with utter precision, a single miscalculation of which could be a matter of life or death?

Since then, Omega has always been at the forefront of lunar discovery, accompanying astronauts on all 6 lunar landings, and cementing an indestructible bond between its watches and space flight.

An evening in space

To celebrate that spirit and commitment, Omega recently hosted an unforgettable evening in Houston, Texas, brought to life inside a huge aircraft hangar, transformed into a starry universe. Guests were treated to cocktails aboard an impressive space vessel at the start of the event, before they were audibly "launched" from Earth and "transported" to the moon.

Among those present for the momentous event were astronauts Gene Cernan, General Thomas Stafford, and Captain James Lovell; prominent members of the Houston community including style icon Lynn Wyatt, philanthropist Becca Cason Thrash, NFL player Chester Pitts, and actress Joanna Garcia Swisher; as well as a whole host of industry legends.

Upon “landing”, Omega brand ambassador George Clooney was there to greet everyone, beginning with his own memory as an 8-year-old boy awestruck by the historic occasion back in 1969.

"This was a time for us in our country when we needed these people to dream,” he said in appreciation of the astronauts in the audience.  “You gentlemen are an inspiration to all of us here and I have to tell you what an honour it is to be standing up here with you.”

The new 2015 Speedmaster Collection

Capping off the night, the brand proudly premiered its new generation 2015 Speedmaster Collection that -- while may boast several updated features -- still essentially retains the same spirit, commitment and innovation that launched it into history.

The new addition includes a new Speedmaster ’57, a nod to the classic Speedmaster worn by Armstrong and his crew; the Apollo 13 Silver Snoopy Award, a tribute to the mascot of NASA; and the radiant White Side of the Moon, inspired by the lunar glow we see from Earth.

Four new designs have also been added to the Speedmaster Dark Side of the Moon series, each a homage to the new frontiers of design and technology in space exploration.
