Swiss luxury masters, Chopard, have introduced new models to the Mille Miglia collection of watches inspired by the beauty of classic racecars.

The prestigious Mille Miglia open-road race in Italy sees vintage sports cars the likes of Alfa Romeo, Maserati and Porsche among other cars produced before 1958, participating in the race. With a race route that starts at Rome winding through some of the most magnificent scenery in Italy, the Mille Miglia race accepts a total of 375 cars for every year it is held. As the official timekeeper since 1988, Chopard had in the same year, designed the first Mille Miglia Chronograph watch.

Adding to the classic range of Mille Miglia watches, unveiled at Baselworld 2015, the leading watch and jewellery trade show in Switzerland, are the new Mille Miglia Grand Turismo Sport (GTS) timepieces inspired by the racecars. The range comes in three models with the Automatic (a three-hand chronometer that features a date display), a version in Chronograph, which includes the stopwatch function and the Power Control watch that displays the 60-hour power-reserve indicator. For the first time, the new Mille Miglia watches will also include high-precision movements created at Chopard’s workshops in Switzerland.

Encased in a 43 or 44 mm diameter frame in steel or 18-carat rose gold; the Mille Miglia GTS is designed with the style of racecars in mind. The sleek black dial accentuated with touches of red and white brings to mind the colours of vintage dashboards. Sparing no effort when it comes to the details, even the power-reserve indicator for the Power Control model resembles that of a fuel gauge. The date display is also highlighted with the Miglia arrow logo in bold red. When it comes to the strap of the watch, choose between the steel bracelet and the rubber strap inspired by Dunlop racecar tyres.

A tribute to the Mille Miglia racecars, the new Chopard Mille Miglia GTS watch design is bolder and more stylish while staying true to the DNA of the earlier Mille Miglia timepieces.
