Montblanc puts an avant-garde twist on conventional time-telling with this new addition to the Nicolas Rieussec collection

In less than five years, the Nicolas Rieussec has become a bona fide Montblanc icon, thanks to its distinctive dial with double-disc chronograph display, a direct reference of Rieussec’s design (the 18th century chronograph inventor from which the collection takes its name).
Since the collection’s launch in 2008, the winsome look has anchored numerous variants spanning automatic chronographs to two-time zone watches to skeleton models.
The new Rising Hours, however, is possibly the most whimsical of the lot, featuring a regulator-style display (where the hour and minute indicators are separate) that is enhanced by a day-night indicator on the hour numerals.
The dial aperture at 12 o'clock shows plus-sized hour numerals that scroll from right to left to mark the passage of time. Nothing unusual about this, except that the numbers seem to magically change colours from black (day) to blue (night) in tandem with the hours of the day. This neat visual treat is made possible by two separate discs mounted on top of each other.

Of course, one doesn’t need the watch to tell if it’s day or night. This feature, however, comes in handy when setting the time, when one needs to know the number of hours to advance.
As with all Nicholas Rieussec watches, the Rising Hours is powered by an in-house movement. In this version, it is the automatic MB R220 Calibre with 72-hour power reserve.

Available in three variants, the watch comes in platinum (limited to 28 pieces), 18K red gold and stainless-steel cases with brown alligator leather straps.
