Luxury Swiss watch brand Hublot celebrates its 40th birthday with an exhibition dedicated to its exceptional craftsmanship

Congratulations are in order for luxury watchmaker, Hublot. The sophisticated Swiss horologist has reached a milestone this year—its 40th birthday. To celebrate, Hublot has launched a phygital retrospective exhibition to herald the "Art of Fusion", a unique craftsmanship that in 1980 saw Hublot become the first brand to dare to combine gold and rubber on a timepiece.

Hublot in Hong Kong

The Art of Fusion exhibition, designed by acclaimed UK designer Samuel Ross, was first unveiled last month at the Hublot manufacture in Nyon, Switzerland. Taking it on the road, the ephemeral Hublot retrospective has now reached Hong Kong. And, shoppers can experience the Art of Fusion for themselves, inside the brand’s Hong Kong flagship, 1881 Heritage, presented in both digital and physical format.

Parlaying Hublot’s “be first, different and unique” philosophy, Hong Kong patrons this month will be privy to a display of the brand’s classic watch models, along with the unveiling of a new style that highlights Hublot’s ongoing breakthrough in the fusion of materials and disciplines: the "Classic Fusion".

Classic Fusion: Back to the Future

Hublot’s creation of a gold watch on a rubber strap in 1980 broke with conventional codes and laid the foundations for its own vision of "Haute-Horlogerie". And, forty years on, Hublot hasn’t stopped evolving.

To mark its anniversary, the Swiss watchmaker has reinvented its 1980 Classic Original.  The "Classic Fusion" is a mechanical iteration of Hublot’s 1980 Classic Original and is available in three material finishes: Yellow Gold, Black Ceramic and Titanium.

“These Classic Fusion models embody 40 years packed with technological advances and breaking with convention,” said Ricardo Guadalupe, CEO of Hublot, when commenting on the three new iterations.

“Not content with simply reissuing the 1980 Classic Original, we have reinterpreted it to reflect the Hublot of today. One model with a mechanical movement in a 45 mm format for men. A brand-new contemporary version that celebrates Hublot's innovative approach of the last forty years.”

Understated and elegant, each Classic Fusion boasts a streamline black lacquered and polished dial, with faceted hands and an appliqué Hublot and H logo. The 45mm case in iconic shades—yellow gold, titanium or black ceramic—is supported by a sapphire crystal case back, finished with an adjustable rubber strap and a triple deployant clasp. A marrying of modern comfort and timeless class.

Hublot's 40th Anniversary Exhibition runs from now until December 31, 2020, at the Hublot Heritage 1881 store. Opening hours are 10:00am-7:00pm.
