Watches & Wonders 2021 makes a case for going green with these stunning timepieces from Patek Philippe, Jaeger-LeCoultre and others

Blue dials have always been popular and it's easy to understand why. However, an increased number of green dials presented at Watches & Wonders 2021 has Tatler wondering whether we should be giving this underrated colour a chance. Thanks to Patek Philippe, Jaeger-LeCoultre and Piaget, as well as others, there's plenty to choose from––do you prefer emerald, olive or forest? Perhaps it's high time we "discover" green dials.

Patek Philippe’s head honcho Thierry Stern announced there would be a limited final edition of the watchmaker’s iconic 5711/1A when he announced earlier this year that, after a 15-year-long run, the beloved luxury sports watch was going to be discontinued. An olive-green sunburst dial is what makes this watch different to Patek’s signature blue model, and a diamond-set bezel version has also been revealed for those who like to sparkle.

Made in stainless steel, these new watches come with either a blue or green dial, which collectors can wear with a calfskin strap or metal bracelet. The brand's proprietary quick-change system lets you swap out the different straps without watchmaking tools.

Measuring in at just 2 mm thick, the Piaget Altiplano Ultimate Concept is a standout wristwatch, so it came as little surprise to industry leaders that the brand took home the prize for the best watch of the year, also known as the “Aiguille d’Or”, at the 2020 edition of the Grand Prix d’Horlogerie de Genève. For Watches & Wonders 2021, a version with a green satin-brushed dial has been unveiled, which is worn with a matching green alligator leather strap.

Over the years, Tudor's Black Bay Fifty-Eight has spawned numerous variations, including a Marine Nationale-inspired creation that hit shelves just last year. For 2021, this watch gets a facelift with a yellow gold case and vibrant olive-green dial. However, what really makes the Black Bay Fifty-Eight 18K special is its open case back, which now boasts a sapphire display so wearers can admire the watch's brand-new movement for themselves.
