Unveiled exclusively to Tatler Singapore, Tiffany & Co’s Sixteen Stone Mother-of-Pearl Ruby watch will launch with the reopening of its Ion Orchard flagship, ahead of a global release later this year
As anticipation builds around the reopening of Tiffany & Co’s expanded Ion Orchard boutique, the American luxury jewellery and watch house is marking the occasion with the debut of a new high jewellery timepiece—revealed exclusively to Tatler Singapore. The Sixteen Stone Mother-of-Pearl Ruby watch will launch alongside the flagship’s reopening in June, remaining a Singapore exclusive until later in the year.
First presented privately to us during a preview in Tokyo this April, the watch is a fitting one for such an occasion, as it speaks to the brand’s roots as well as its renewed focus on a jewellery-first approach to watchmaking. At its core is a design lineage that traces back to renowned jewellery desigener Jean Schlumberger, whose Sixteen Stone motif first appeared in Tiffany’s 1959 Blue Book. Originally conceived as a ring, the design is defined by its cross-stitch pattern in yellow gold securing a row of diamonds—an idea rooted in Schlumberger’s Alsatian textile heritage. Here, that motif is translated onto a watch dial, retaining its sculptural dimension while introducing a sense of movement.

The dial is composed of two distinct elements: a central disc in mother-of-pearl, and an outer rotating ring set with 12 diamonds and 12 rubies, interspersed with the signature cross-stitch forms in 18-karat yellow gold. The ring, which requires approximately 25 hours to complete, moves freely with the motion of the wrist, interacting with light and colour that shifts throughout the day—an effect that echoes Schlumberger’s fascination with dynamic, living forms.
Rubies, too, are a considered choice. Tiffany has incorporated the gemstone into its timepieces since the nineteenth century, a legacy reflected in its archival pocket watches and early wristwatches. Their presence here lends warmth to the composition, balancing the cool brilliance of diamonds and white gold while reinforcing the house’s longstanding dialogue between watchmaking and high jewellery. In the context of its Singapore debut, the vivid red of the rubies is especially apt, echoing the nation’s colours.

The 36mm case is crafted in 18-karat white gold and snow-set with 366 diamonds, contributing to a total of 421 diamonds across the watch, amounting to a total of 3.4 carats. The setting creates a continuous surface of light without overwhelming the dial, allowing the rotating ring to remain the focal point. On the reverse, a sunburst engraving inspired by the Jean Schlumberger for Tiffany & Co Floral Arrows brooch is punctuated with diamonds.
Paired with a red alligator strap and powered by is a Swiss quartz movement, the Tiffany & Co Sixteen Stone Mother-of-Pearl Ruby watch will be produced in limited quantities each year, making it a worthy collector’s piece.
