Customers can design their very own Bremont Martin-Baker MBII watch from the comfort of their laptop and, for a limited time only, if they pay a deposit through “Tatler” their built-to-order timepiece will come with an exclusive twist

Bremont has had a slew of new releases over the last year, including the latest edition of its Martin-Baker watch, also known as MB, which made its debut over 10 years ago in 2009. Here at Tatler, we love this launch and think it's particularly relevant in the time of coronavirus. Why? Well, the MBII, which is the most recent variation of the pilot’s watch introduced to honour British ejection seat manufacturer Martin-Baker, can be customised online from the comfort of your sofa with a glass of single malt in one hand and a Cuban cigar in the other.

This updated Martin-Baker boasts a cleaner look thanks to bigger hands, more readable numerals and the removal of the day indication. A newly designed closed case back comes with a “military challenge coin”, which was historically used to signify membership of an elite unit or specific tour of duty.

These new watches use the same in-house Calibre 11 1/4” BE-36AE and come with a choice of Chalgrove rubber or leather straps, as well as metal bracelets.

If that weren’t exciting enough, Bremont is now collaborating with Tatler for a limited-time offer that’s exclusive to our readers. So how does it work? It’s simple: pay a 20% deposit through the Tatler Unlisted website between March 1st and 7th, and you'll be invited to Bremont's Hong Kong-based boutique at Lyndhurst Terrace where you'll design a MBII watch yourself.

This includes choosing your case metal as well as your dial, barrel and strap colours, which vary from blue to orange to green and more, before finishing everything off with an engraving––assuming you don't opt for an open case back. After you place the order for your watch, it takes between 12 and 14 weeks to produce.

While at the boutique, collectors will also experience an exclusive virtual consultation via Zoom with one of Bremont’s co-founders, either Nick or Giles English. They will also enjoy an open invitation to visit the watchmaker’s manufacture at Henley-on-Thames when they’re next in England.

“The MB collection is a very special range to us,” says Nick. “Not only was it our first brand partnership, but it really launched our work and close ties with various military squadrons around the world who now commission Bremont to make custom watches for their units.”

When asked about Bremont's collaboration with Tatler, Nick adds: “Bremont only makes limited numbers of mechanical watches each year and this is even more exclusive. You’d be hard pushed to find someone who had configured exactly the same watch, I imagine!”

The price for a customised Martin-Baker starts at HK$38,950.
