It’s not often that one sees three renowned names in luxury working together. And when they are Mr Porter, Zenith and Bamford Watch Department (BWD), expectations are inevitably sky high.

The result of this fantastic alliance was unveiled recently and we’re happy to report that it didn’t disappoint. To be made exclusively available on Mr Porter on Nov 15, 2018, the Chronomaster El Primero 38mm Mr Porter is based on Zenith’s Heritage 146 but also features other historical design cues. Working alongside BWD on the design, it includes a tachymeter inspired by the 1971 El Primero and design elements from a vintage recorder and motion detecting clock.

Founded by George Bamford in London in 2004, the idea behind BWD began when Bamford found that everyone else at a party were wearing the same Rolex Daytona he had on his wrist. Wanting to stand out, he decided to customise his own watch and was surprised when he started getting orders after people saw what he had done.

Sensing a business opportunity, he established BWD dedicated to full personalisation of the highest calibre of luxury watches. After years of working with private clients seeking to add value or a touch of differentiation on their watches, the company was appointed last year as the official watch customiser for LVMH’s watch brands namely TAG Heuer, Zenith and Bulgari.

At Baselworld this year, TAG Heuer unveiled a Monaco co-designed with BWD. And now it’s Zenith’s turn to take the partnership to the next level.

“The relationship established last year with customisation specialist BWD has already confirmed the wide range of creative possibilities provided by such cooperation, and this is the first time that we’re producing a BWD design entirely in-house,” notes Julien Tornare, CEO of Zenith. The result of this three-way endeavour is like to strike a chord with stylish men around the globe.”

Bamford echoes this sentiment, adding: “The engineering team at Zenith has blown me away with how the beautiful blue on this unique dial has come to life and the way in which the design nods to the past makes it truly special.”
