A collector’s favourite, the Panerai California dial levels up its coveted status with a limited edition featuring Chinese numerals
Panerai’s California dial is distinguished by its unique mix of Roman and Arabic numerals, a feature beloved by its collectors. It has been said that it was the collectors themselves who named it in a nod to a dial restoration company in California.
To mark the Chinese New Year, Panerai reimagines the California dial with Chinese numerals, replacing the Arabic numerals on the lower half. Limited to 300 pieces, the Radiomir 8 Giorni PAM02088 features the Chinese numerals 4, 5, 7, and 8, in addition to the Roman numerals for 10, 11, 1, and 2. Bar markers and a minute track complete the dial layout.
The festive edition Radiomir instantly draws you in with its zeitgeisty vintage aesthetic. The black dial recalls the oxidation seen on early Panerai dials, while the domed sapphire crystal is reminiscent of the Plexiglas crystal found in early Radiomirs developed for the Italian military.
A subtle detail easily overlooked, the blue of the burnished steel hands is another nod to watchmaking heritage, offering not only greater legibility but also protecting the surface against corrosion. The hue is now created through a controlled oxidation process at about 300 degrees Celcius.

The weathered finishing of the 45mm Brunito stainless steel 1.441 LVM cushion-shaped case is achieved through a handcrafted process of brushing away black PVD coating, a technique that ensures that no two cases are alike. Reinforcing the vintage appeal are slim wire lugs and the cone-shaped crown.
Completing its look is a green calf leather strap with trapezoidal Brunito stainless steel 1.441 LVM buckle.
