Tatler takes a closer look at the JC Biver x Bucherer Carillon Tourbillon that’s as beautiful inside as it is outside

Swiss luxury watchmaker Bucherer takes its rich legacy further with a new collaboration with Biver, a horological brand founded by Jean-Claude Biver, former president of LMVH’s watch division. This new partnership between Bucherer and Biver has resulted in a carillon minute repeater, meticulously set with sapphires totalling 30.52 carats, encased in white gold, and boasting a tourbillon and platinum micro-rotor.

Since Jean-Claude Biver and his son Pierre—leveraging the elder Biver’s half-century of expertise in the watchmaking realm—introduced their eponymous brand in 2023, they have been pushing the boundaries of horology. Their inaugural piece, the minute repeater, was a bold declaration of the brand’s ethos. The Bivers, unencumbered by commercial pressures that often stifle creativity, tapped into a network of specialists to construct a timepiece that was as perfect internally as it is externally—a concept they term “invisible beauty”.

This new launch, the carillon-type repeater, with its trio of gongs and hammers, introduces a new dimension of complexity and auditory delight. The automatic movement, powered by a platinum micro-rotor, exemplifies the technical prowess of the timepiece, while the decorative plate in rose gold adds a layer of visual warmth. Each detail, down to the JCB seal on the regulating bridge, speaks to the level of craftsmanship invested in the watch’s creation.

With its 196 re-entrant angles and 44 jewels, this watch is not only a marvel from a technical standpoint but also a masterpiece of design. The tourbillon, crowned with a white gold bridge, showcases the brand’s commitment to combining sophistication with mechanical ingenuity. All of these elements are housed within a sapphire crystal case that ensures resilience and clarity. What’s more, the movement boasts a power reserve of 72 hours.

All in all, the Biver brand is not just about keeping time; it is about cherishing it, celebrating it, and, ultimately, transcending it.
