Van Cleef & Arpels adds six new rings to its Perlée collection, pairing golden beads with diamonds, sapphires, rubies and emeralds
The golden bead may not be the most glamorous unit in fine jewellery, but Van Cleef & Arpels has built a loyal following around it. Since its launch in 2008, the Perlée collection has centred around the golden bead, a motif rooted in the maison’s archive going back to the Couscous pieces of the late 1940s. The six new rings follow the five-row design introduced in 2022 but these new additions to the collection feature three rows of beads graduating in size from the top of the ring to the back of the band.

Three of the rings are set with a diagonal line of nine round diamonds, graded D to F in colour, and IF to VVS in clarity, held in a nail setting whose rounded tips retain the beaded look. The remaining three, the Perlée Couleurs rings, swap diamonds for sapphires set in yellow gold, rubies in rose gold, and emeralds in yellow gold. For the coloured stone versions, each nail holds up to three stones and the work is carried out by high jewellery stone setters.

The beads themselves are cast in yellow, rose or white gold using Van Cleef & Arpels’s signature lost-wax technique and finished by hand. A honeycomb-patterned, openworked gold section is seen on the reverse of each ring. All six are designed to be stacked with existing pieces in the collection.
