The king of controversy Ai Weiwei ventured into the field of jewellery to debut his first collection in London

Renowned for his thought-provoking and notorious art creations, the Beijing-born artist continues to make waves in the international art scene, though this time for a different reason.

Ai has created a collection of wearable art, which will be displayed at Elisabetta Cipriani gallery in London from November 12, 2015 to January 16, 2016. Art fanatics can also purchase these jewellery pieces straight from the gallery.

Drawing inspiration from the 70 tonnes of steel reinforcing bars which were mangled and twisted in the 2008 Sichuan earthquake in China, these unique jewellery pieces are rendered in pure 24 carat gold.

Personally bent by the artist himself, these sleek and minimalist golden pieces will add an understated yet powerful statement to a sartorial ensemble.

The artist has also designed a wooden house for the gallery in which cabinets will display the wearable sculptures.
