Carter Reum proposed to Paris Hilton during her 40th birthday celebration last week with a glamorous emerald-cut diamond ring on a platinum band
Paris Hilton has announced on Instagram and on her personal website her engagement to Carter Reum, her boyfriend of one year. Reum popped the question a day before Valentine's while the couple was out on a private island celebrating Hilton's 40th birthday.
The two were on a romantic pre-dinner walk on the beach when Reum dropped to one knee to get Hilton's 'yes'. The socialite called the proposal one that she "always dreamed of." While eyes are on who Hilton's beau is, her one-of-a-kind diamond engagement ring also caught the eyes of many.
The emerald-cut, mega-carat bling was designed by jeweller, Jean Dousset, the great-great-grandson of Louis-François Cartier, the founder of luxury jewellery brand, Cartier. In her website, Hilton shared the story behind the ring, dubbed "Paris". Hilton said that the ring was crafted "with love and care" using "tension setting to align diamonds seamlessly without metal" and a group of "finest diamond cutters, polishers, jewellers and setters were assembled" to make the ring as a "special project."

Also on Hilton's website, she mentioned that Dousset sought inspiration from Paris when designing the engagement ring and was influenced by both classical and Art Nouveau motifs as well as the evaluated glass ceiling at Paris' Grand Palais. "I love the process of creating Paris’s engagement ring. Beautifully hand-sketched and no doubt handcrafted in Jean Dousett’s atelier," says Sally Ryder, founder of Ryder Diamonds, which has a bespoke jewellery studio in Hong Kong. "The large emerald cut is very chic and the trapeze cut diamonds give it an elegant style. The centre diamond could easily be between 10 and 15 carats."
"I’m glad she chose a customised ring that is representative of her to make it so special and personal," Ryder tells Tatler.
