根據英國珠寶設計師杜卡斯（Annoushka Ducas）表示，「凱特王妃耳垂上那對 18 克拉的珍珠垂墜耳環有著哀悼之意。」因為早在維多利亞女王時期，女王傷痛便會穿著黑色服飾並配上無色珠寶或者珍珠，所以珍珠又有尊重、哀悼的隱藏含義，設計師杜卡斯也強調凱特的行為，「是對已故女王的敬重之心」。
