Now, 150 years later, Piaget still retains its faithfulness to the very foundations that have set them apart. The new Essence of Extraleganza high jewellery collection pays homage to its roots and expertise in gold and colour, creating almost 100 bold and exquisite jewellery pieces. Harnessing the Maison’s rich savoir-faire, the cuff bracelets and necklaces of the sixties and seventies are revitalised; this time, with a modern twist.
Stéphanie Sivrière, Piaget’s jewellery and watch artistic director, muses on its approach to its anniversary collection. “It wasn’t about identically reproducing heritage pieces, but rather taking inspiration from them. Revisiting those values of boldness, originality and elegance that characterise this Maison’s soul at the dawn of modernity,” she says.
The spirit of the luxury jeweller in its golden years is now immortalised 150 years later with pieces in the collection serving as emblems of elegance and timelessness. Gemstones are used as stylistic elements to enhance the gold, resulting in special creations that set their wearers apart as freedom seekers. Through a keen focus on the diversity of gemstones and limitless designs, Essence of Extraleganza presents its jewels within three chapters representing the different realms of Piaget: Extraleganza, Piaget Society, and When Mastery Ignites Artistry.

Extraleganza
Rekindling the Maison’s golden years of the 1960s and 1970s, Piaget’s virtuoso high jewellery collection ignites both “extravagance” and “elegance”, hence the portmanteau: Extraleganza.
The star of the chapter is, no doubt, the Swinging Sautoir, one of Piaget’s most distinctive signatures that was first introduced in 1969. Contemporised for the 150th anniversary, the long necklace consists of blue and green beads threaded onto a gem-set, diamond-paved yellow gold chain, accentuated with an aquamarine of 6.11 carats and a 29.24-ct Sri Lankan yellow sapphire. In true innovative Piaget fashion, these gems also border a pendant watch with a trapezoid dial in turquoise and diamonds, which can be detached and worn on the wrist.

The second chapter honours the boldness of Piaget and its distinctive approach to jewellery, taking richly coloured gems as a metaphor for life’s adventure. A hand-coiled rose gold necklace stands out for its Neo-Seventies fluidity; the necklace sports solid and slender shapes with a succession of empty circles and ovals, large opal plaques, and snow-set diamond surfaces.

Piaget’s unparalleled craftsmanship and taste for couture lead the third chapter, breathing a new life of fluidity into precious textures crafted in gold. The star of this realm can be found in a timepiece set with some 40 Colombian baguette-cut emeralds, totalling 26.11 carats.
