With Joyeria’s passion for storytelling, each exquisite piece of fine jewellery is crafted to celebrate life’s most treasured moments, big or small

There’s a charming story behind the name of homegrown custom jewellery brand Joyeria Jewellery. While the word “joyeria” literally means “jeweller” in Spanish, it is also a clever play on words that intertwines the brand’s core mission of evoking joy amongst clients with the first name of its co-founder and head designer, Ria Perez.

Looking back into the past, it was as if Perez was always destined to find her way into the glittering world of lustrous gems. She had grown up with two jewellers as parents, after all, immersed in their well-oiled machine of a family business for most of her life. But it was not until her early 30s that she, too, fell in love with the craft and found her personal panache.

“From a young age, I've always had an inclination towards arts and literature. Being a jewellery designer has allowed me to pursue a culmination of that,” Perez shares. Things fell into place pretty naturally then. She and her husband Erick established Joyeria Jewellery in 2014, catering only to the requests of close friends who were either proposing, getting married, securing gifts for their significant other, or celebrating a special milestone. Eventually, however, word of mouth propelled them to keep growing as a company.

A recipient of awards from A’ Design and Ayala Foundation, Perez’s tenacity and dedication led her to study in some of the field’s most distinguished institutions, learning her technical expertise at the Gemological Institute of America (GIA) and then exploring her artistic side at the L'Ecole des Arts Joailliers in France. While her education forms the cornerstone of the Joyeria brand, Perez argues that having a trained eye only scratches the surface of what they do.

“The design process really begins with listening,” she relays. “Being able to bring joy to clients requires understanding and translating their narrative into meaningful jewellery. I personally select the best materials and ensure meticulous craftsmanship from Filipino artisans to comparably capture the essence of what [our customers] shared with me, to come up with a deeply personal piece that can be carried through seasons and generations.”

Also deviating from the conventional jewellery packaging of blue foam and plastic, Joyeria embraced a more sophisticated and personalised presentation to accentuate the allure of its bespoke pieces and capsule collection. Today, the company takes most pride in crafting reimagined corporate jewellery—which is really about making wearable conversation pieces for everyday use.

“The Joyeria client is an inspiring leader with a vision and passion to create a difference,” Perez says, painting a picture of the loyal patronage they’ve amassed in nearly ten years. “They recognise value and will invest in pieces that appreciate over time. Just as they dare to create a difference, they want that difference to be reflected in the jewellery they have custom-made.”

We are far from the days when fine jewellery only used to be worn during special occasions, she adds. The stylish and discerning know to elevate their classic looks by incorporating unique little tweaks, conveying a story in the elements and details of their jewellery choices.

The goal for Joyeria and Perez thus extends beyond impressing the eye; it is rather about creating those irreplaceable connections with each and every patron. Perez underscores how “designing with empathy” allows her to do just that, relaying that this will continue to dictate Joyeria’s journey moving forward. As clients can await future collaborations and cross-commerce experiences soon, the path remains bright and gleaming for this proud homegrown brand.
