Dilys' Focus
Handcrafted in its very own workshop in Hong Kong, Dilys' Collection's jewellery tells a story that surpasses generations
Dilys’ Collection has a history that's earned the maison a reputation as a local treasure. The jeweller boasts close to 30 years of expertise and draws much of its inspiration from the bustling city of which it was born: Hong Kong.
Dilys Young established her namesake brand in 1991 after spending more than a decade working as a jewellery designer. The maison continues to operate from its very first boutique–called Room 702–in the iconic New World Tower on Queen’s Road Central. Staying true to its roots, Young has established an in-house workshop to ensure her pieces–many of which are unique–are handcrafted with the utmost quality from start-to-finish in her hometown.
Young's youngest daughter, Pearl Li, trained under her mother after showing an interest in the family business. Today, she is a London College of Fashion graduate and heads up Dilys’ Collection’s marketing department as her mother's successor. “My first encounter with jewellery was when I was just three years old, while attending one of my mum’s private jewellery shows,” she says. “She tells me that I would pick pieces up, inspect them, and rearrange them.”

A self-professed introvert, Li would attend her mother’s exhibitions and private shows, quietly absorbing and learning from the glitz and glamour associated with belonging to a family of jewellers. “I always felt lucky," she explains, "being granted a front-row seat to the conversations between my mum and her clients, who were also very strong and intelligent women.”
Li was always set to follow in her mother’s footsteps. “Growing up it [Dilys’ Collection] was all my parents talked about.” But instead of design, Li excels in the business side of things. “I want to open the brand up,” she explains. “Dilys' fine jewellery already has a distinct identity under the creative direction of my mum and her unique sense of style.” Li hopes to further this, “by establishing our brand and extending my mum’s legacy, which requires confidence and vision.”
