The latest addition to Dior’s Grand Bal VIII collection combines the iconic fashion houses’ spirit of haute couture with fine watchmaking

When the Dior Grand Bal VIII collection first launched in 2011, it was applauded for its attention to detail with intricate design features. The 2015 edition of the Dior Grand Bal VIII Plissé Soleil is adorned with new colours combining the deep blue sea of the dial with the sea-green of the oscillating weight, nicely contrasting the grey mother-of-pearl pleating. The 36mm model is a timepiece that’s equipped with an automatic movement that is exclusive to the House of Dior, the unique oscillating weight on the ball dial mirrors the hypnotic swirl of a classic Dior gown.

Interestingly, the latest Grand Bal VIII watch pays tribute to the couturier’s legendary founder Christian Dior, adding to the extensive Grand Bal VIII collection, a reference to the superstitious Dior who treated eight as his lucky number. It’s by no coincidence that the fashion house was founded on October 8, 1946 but the number eight is also a nod towards its location on the 8th arrondissement of Paris and a homage to Dior’s first collection, aptly titled ‘en huit.
