Dramatic and architectural gowns aside, jewellery was another anticipated trend to watch at the 91st Academy Awards. The ladies of Hollywood arrived on the red carpet, fabulously decked in high jewellery and precious stones from top jewellery houses around the globe. This season's recurring trend of earrings is hard to miss, ranging from understated studs to polished precious metal, and even multi-coloured ornamental designs. Take a closer look at the brands and masterpieces that adorned leading ladies of this year.

1. Chopard

Olivia Colman and Regina King (below), the big winners of the evening, wore 'lucky jeweller of the Oscars' Chopard. Olivia opted for diamond earrings featuring diamonds set in white gold that complemented the glittering embroidery on her dress. 

Regina accessorised with 7.92-carat pear cut diamonds and 4.32 carats of diamonds set in white gold. 

2. Cindy Chao

Julia Roberts framed her timeless beauty with a pair of high jewellery earrings from Taiwanese designer Cindy Chao's architectural collection. Made from pear-shaped diamonds in 20.28 carats, 16 conch pearls, and 1,106 diamonds at 7 carats, and set in 18-karat yellow gold, it was a masterpiece that topped her outfit.

3. Irene Neuwirth

Maya Rudolph wore a pair of chandelier earrings of mixed precious stones; of South Sea and Akoya pearls. It was also crafted from opals, floral-shaped pink opals, blue chalcedony, tourmalines, fancy colour sapphire hearts, and more, set in 18-karat white and yellow gold.

4. Bvlgari

Gemma Chan rocked a pair of contrasting Bvlgari earrings, 1 with sapphites and the other with emeralds.

5. Niwaka

Emilia Clarke chose Japanese jewellery brand Niwaka for her Oscars look: she paired her sequinned Balmain gown with a pair of white gold and diamond tiered earrings from the Renka collection.

6. Buccellati

Looking like a baroque queen in a pair of Buccellati Esmeralda high jewellery earrings, Jaime Ray Newman basked in the beauty of pear-shaped emeralds of 6.41 carats, a lace cluster of honeycomb yellow gold and and white gold and set with 312 diamonds.

7. Tiffany Diamond

8. Harry Winston

Songbird Jennifer Hudson paired her performance with a winsome red ensemble and Harry Winston vintage 1972 diamond chandelier earrings in 29.59 carats, set in platinum.

'Black Panther's' Letitia Wright accessorised with a pair of Cartier platinum and yellow sapphire high jewellery earrings.
