Spoiler alert: the most expensive jewellery piece ever offered at Christie’s Hong Kong is about to go under the hammer

With more than 290 precious lots on offer, Christie’s will hold its Magnificent Jewels auction in Hong Kong on 28 November. The highlight of the auction is the Pink Promise, a 14.93 carats fancy vivid pink VVS1 clarity (Type IIA) diamond ring, that is also the most expensive jewellery piece ever offered at Christie’s Hong Kong auctions.

An array of spectacular coloured diamonds, gemstones and jadeites will also go under the hammer. Here are the standout pieces that are set to impress connoisseurs at the auction:

The Pink Promise

The 14.93 carats and fancy vivid pink VVS1 clarity (Type IIA) pink diamond ring, known as the Pink Promise, is the most expensive jewellery piece ever offered at Christie’s Hong Kong with an estimate of US$28 - 42 million.

Pink diamonds are considered among the rarest and most valuable gemstones in the world as every one of them is unique in the hue, tone and saturation that they display. As well as the Pink Promise, an 8.80 carats fancy intense pink VVS1 Clarity (Type IIA) diamond ring will also be on offer.

Pigeon’s Blood Red Burmese Rubies

Rubies are the most precious coloured gemstones and only the most perfect rubies with exceptional saturation and natural red fluorescence can be deemed as pigeon’s blood. In recent years, pigeon’s blood rubies of significant size have been generating intense bidding in auction rooms around the world.

Having offered both the Ratnaraj ruby and the Crimson Flame, Christie’s has been leading the market with its pigeon’s blood offerings. This season, Christie’s will offer an extremely rare 8.17 carats pigeon’s blood red Burmese ruby ring. To compliment the ring, a pair of 4.04 and 4.03 carats pigeon’s blood red Burmese ruby and diamond ear pendants will also be on display.

Jadeite

Holding a special place for many Asian collectors, jadeite has been in demand in the Asian market for many centuries and Hong Kong is often the place to be for jadeite patrons.

Among the top jadeite pieces Christie’s is offering this season, a jadeite bead and diamond necklace and a jadeite pendant stand out with their pure and vivid emerald green colours, making them the top lots at the auction.

Sri Lankan Padparadscha Sapphire

First discovered on the tear-drop shaped island of Sri-Lanka, the Padparadscha sapphire belongs to the corundum family, which includes famed members such as sapphires and rubies. Most interestingly, this jewel contains both key elements that give sapphire and ruby their distinctive colours.

Going under the hammer at the auction this season is a 28.04 carats Sri Lankan Padparadscha sapphire and diamond ring, the piece is set to delight connoisseurs with its delicate hues.

Wallace Chan: The Beginning of a Genius

Along with the precious jewels, an array of pendants, rings, and brooches from the "Wallace Chan: The Beginning of a Genius" collection by the international jeweler and artist Wallace Chan will also be on display.
