Cover Fine jewellery designer Irene Neuwirth

Part of Net-a-Porter’s fine watch and jewellery campaign, the California-based designer talks about gemstones and what the future holds

Describe your jewellery in five words.

Feminine, strong, colourful, beautiful, whimsical.

Who would you love to see wearing your jewellery?

Senator Kamala Harris (the Democratic vice-presidential nominee for the 2020 US election), and she did! When I found out, I was over the moon.

If you weren’t a jeweller, what would you be?

Probably an interior designer. Scratch that: a horse trainer!

What are your favourite gemstones?

Opals. They’re beautiful and unique and remind me of the bottom of the sea.

Where are you travelling to next?

I’m really looking forward to going back to New York to see my mom and my sister when Covid-19 has passed.

Why have you collaborated with Net-a-Porter?

I have always been a fan of Net-a-Porter, so when they gave me the opportunity to introduce my jewellery collections to their sophisticated and chic audience, I couldn’t say no.

What pieces on Net-a-Porter should we keep an eye out for?

Some of my more timeless pieces on Net-a-Porter are from my Gumball, Tropical Flowers and Love collections. I've also thrown in some one-of-a-kind pieces for good measure!
