From a trio of pear-shaped, internally flawless coloured diamond rings to a multi-gem Cartier tiger bangle, Christie’s curated collection of high jewellery goes under the hammer this May
Gemstone aficionados will mark their calendars for May 27, when Christie’s Hong Kong hosts its springtime auction of Magnificent Jewels—with more than 150 exquisite, mesmerising treasures up for sale.
With everything from vibrant coloured and colourless diamonds to Burmese red rubies, Colombian emeralds, Kashmiri sapphires, rare jadeite and pearls, the auction will take place at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre.
The top lot in the sale is a 16.05-carat Burmese Pigeon’s Blood Ruby and Diamond Ring. Expected to sell for between HK$80 million and HK$120 million, it features the most valuable ruby to appear at auction in Asia in the past five years, the highly prized Mythic Ruby, which hails from Myanmar’s famed Mogok valley.
Prestigious French luxury jewellery house Van Cleef & Arpels will also dazzle collectors with its iconic Mystery Set pieces, which include a pair of sapphire and diamond brooches and a ruby and diamond necklace. Another piece not to be overlooked is its emerald and diamond necklace from the Emeraude en Majesté collection, which pays tribute to the longstanding bond between the maison and emeralds.
From Cartier comes a collection of colourful gemstone creations. A candy-like Tutti Frutti set of multi-gemstone pieces includes a matching necklace and earrings, and a bangle with a subtle snake motif woven into it in carved emeralds, rubies and sapphires. Cartier collectors will also recognise the Multi-gem Tiger Bangle featuring the iconic Panthère wrapped around a hinged bracelet.
Other lots from the Magnificent Jewels auction include a 6.48-carat Pigeon’s Blood Ruby and Diamond Ring, estimated between HK$12 million and HK$18 million, with a matching bracelet, estimated between HK$18 million and HK$28 million; a Kashmir Royal Blue Sapphire Ring totalling 21.38 carats and estimated at HK$12 million to HK$18 million; and a stunning 11.26 carat Ceylon Padparadscha Sapphire and Diamond Ring with a rich pinkish-orangey hue, estimated at HK$3.8 to HK$5.8 million.
The preview of Christie’s Hong Kong Magnificent Jewels will be from May 24 to 27, while the live auction will take place at 2pm on May 27 at the Convention Hall in the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre.
