A little sparkle goes a long way on Valentine’s Day

Ah, Valentine’s Day—one of the most stressful days of the year. Between trying to secure a table at that three-star restaurant and choosing the ideal date-night outfit, there’s hardly any time to choose the perfect gift. Thankfully, Cartier’s got you covered—think sleek staples in a mix of metals that’ll add a touch of glitz and glamour to your everyday wardrobe.

There’s nothing quite like receiving one of Cartier's signature red and gold gift boxes. Hey, we can dream, can’t we? Even screen siren and Bond girl Monica Bellucci, who burst onto the Italian film scene in the early 1990s, has been photographed wearing Cartier’s diamond-set sparklers.

At the top of your list should be one or two gold-sculpted pieces from the brand’s Love collection. This unisex line was launched in 1969 by legendary designer Aldo Cipullo, and its crowning glory—the Love bracelet—can only be fitted onto the wrist by a jeweller.

And it can only be removed with a screwdriver, which is about as close to a sign of commitment as a piece of jewellery can get. Richard Burton and Elizabeth Taylor famously wore matching gold bands as a show of their love back in the 1970s. Unfortunately, unlike diamonds, that relationship wasn’t destined to last forever.

If you find yourself single this year, while others are getting gifts for their significant others, why not buy yourself a Love necklace? Choose from white, rose or yellow gold and layer this delicate design with smaller pendants or chunky chokers, without letting one stand out more than another.

For best friends or family, Cartier’s numerous Love rings teem with personality and edge. For a contemporary look, choose a cool white gold band set with jet-black ceramic and pavé diamonds. Or if you prefer a more feminine touch, opt for the solitaire ring in pink gold, which is mounted with a single dazzling stone—both pieces are strong enough to stack well with others.

And in case you’re still wondering what will make your special someone weak at the knees: the Love collection’s white or yellow gold hoop earrings would be so much better than a box of chocolates (wink, wink).
