Sir Elton John's 1972 Ferrari Goes Up For Auction This September

The well-loved Ferrari has over 82,000 miles and yet is expected to pull in at least USD$585,000.

There’s no doubt Sir Elton John has owned some pretty incredible cars throughout his life; and you can now own a piece of his personal automotive history. Sir Elton John’s 1972 Ferrari 365 GTB/4 Daytona is officially heading to auction. The rare Daytona is believed to be the first Ferrari ever purchased by the knighted music legend; and is one of just 158 right-hand-drive models produced by the Ferrari company for the UK market.

Documents accompanying the car suggest Elton John purchased the Daytona in 1973 when he was just 26 years old, with earnings from his “Goodbye Yellow Brick Road” album. It’s believed to have been in his possession until 1965.

According to the UK-based auction house, the Daytona’s complete ownership history is known and documented, it has been exclusively owned by members of the Ferrari Owners’ Club. The vehicle was last sold in 2017 and is being auctioned on behalf of the last owner’s estate.

Despite being a rarity in the automotive world, the 365 GTB/4 Daytona shows 82,000 miles on its odometer, but that shouldn’t deter potential buyers; the Daytona has been taken care of and kept in excellent condition, down to its original Rosso Chiaro (red) paint job. Its binder also includes the factory build sheet, which comes with every service receipt the car has ever had.

The 1972 Ferrari 365 GTB/4 Daytona is set to sell as part of the Silverstone Auctions’ A Sale of Ferrari and Porsche 2019 on September 21. High mileage aside, it is estimated that the car could pull in up to USD$585,000.
