The fashion world witnessed a dazzling spectacle on the night of the Fashion Awards 2023, where designers, models, and industry luminaries gathered to celebrate excellence, creativity, and innovation.

The star-studded ceremony, hosted at London’s Royal Albert Hall, showcased the incredible talent shaping the global fashion landscape. Organised by the British Fashion Council, the event is the primary fundraiser for the British Fashion Council Foundation Charity and aims to celebrate the role of fashion at the intersection of culture and entertainment, spotlighting creative talent and telling the stories of the year in fashion through the lens of purpose, excellence, and creativity.

1. Designer of the year award: Jonathon Anderson

Irish fashion designer Jonathon Anderson has been named Designer of the Year for his work with JW Anderson and Loewe. This past year has seen Anderson dominate culture, making costumes for Luca Guadagnino’s films, dressing the world’s biggest stars and bringing unparalleled success to both Loewe and JW Anderson.

2. British Womenswear Designer Award: Maximilian Davis

Ferragamo’s creative director, Maximilian Davis, received this year’s British Womenswear Designer Award. Davis was awarded for consistently making a global impact with his innovative and creative designs, shaping the burgeoning international womenswear landscape.

3. British Menswear Designer Award: Martine Rose

Founder of her label of the same name, Martine Rose, was awarded the British Menswear Designer Award. Rose has had a big year with collaborations with Stüssy, Clarks, and Nike, all shaped by her interpretation of the brands, bringing influences as diverse as U.K. rave culture, Jamaican subcultures, and sportswear aesthetics to the collaborations.

4. Outstanding Achievement Award: Valentino Garavani

Valentino Garavani was awarded a lifetime achievement award, accepted by Garavani’s longtime business partner Giancarlo Giammetti on his behalf and presented by Gwenyth Paltrow. Being the founder of Valentino, the award celebrated his contribution to the fashion industry and his efforts in constantly reshaping the fashion world through his innovation and creativity. Following his award, a runway presentation of all-red archive Valentino looks was presented.

5. Model of the Year Award: Paloma Elsesser

Paloma Elsesser took home the Model of the Year Award, awarded by British Actor Damon Idris. The U.S based model made history by being the first curve woman to receive the award at The Fashion Awards. Elsesser has become a trailblazer in the fashion world. The award acknowledges her talent and influence in reshaping beauty standards within the industry as an advocate for change.

6. Special Recognition Award for Contribution to the Fashion Industry: Charlotte Tilbury

Cosmetics founder Charlotte Tilbury was honoured with the Special Recognition Award, presented by Amal Clooney. Tilbury was awarded for her contribution to the fashion industry and her visionary and innovative approach to beauty, creating global trends that have transcended the runway.
