Tiffany & Co. unveils new jewellery collection with rare elements, opening a fascinating new chapter in the art of jewellery making

Tiffany & Co. has recently introduced its 2025 Bird on a Pearl High Jewellery Collection on the island paradise of Koh Samui. Revered for its pristine beauty, the location echoes the spirit behind the collection itself. Artistic Director Nathalie Verdeille offers a masterful reinterpretation of Jean Schlumberger’s iconic Bird on a Rock design, this time viewed through a more contemporary lens. In this latest evolution, Schlumberger’s visionary creation is paired with some of the world’s rarest natural saltwater pearls, alongside precious gemstones and fine goldsmithing, elevating his enduring design to exceptional new heights.

Jean Schlumberger, among the most celebrated jewellery designers of the 20th century, was famed for his ability to distil nature’s marvels into wearable works of art. With roots in fashion, having first designed jewellery for Elsa Schiaparelli, he brought haute couture’s refined sensibility into the heart of Tiffany & Co.’s design language.

Nature, mythology and the glamour of high fashion all informed his creations. With meticulous detailing, vivid hues and sculptural shapes, his pieces blurred the line between fine jewellery and art. The Bird on a Rock, introduced in 1965, perfectly encapsulates his instinct for transforming life’s vitality into gemstone form. That same spirit continues to guide Tiffany’s artisans today.

This third chapter in the Bird on a Pearl series is a vivid celebration of nature’s wonders. The wild allure of natural pearls is brought to life through craftsmanship that honours tradition while embracing bold imagination. Birds are seen perched on baroque and teardrop-shaped pearls, dissolving the boundary between the organic and the ornamental.

In other expressions, pearls become the focal point, forming the head or body of a bird and creating a striking interplay between material and form. The subtle gradations of colour from soft cream to pale gold and silvery grey recall the gentle transitions of the seasons, each piece a quiet homage to nature’s rhythms.

The collection features pearls of exceptional rarity, sourced from the Gulf by Mr Hussein Al Fardan, a renowned authority on natural saltwater pearls. His private trove, the largest in the region, contains treasures few have ever seen. Tiffany & Co. alone has been granted the honour of selecting from this extraordinary cache. Among the standout pieces: a necklace composed entirely of natural pearls, each one perfectly matched in size, shape and radiance, two decades in the making. Far more than a showpiece, it stands as a tribute to patience, devotion and the pursuit of excellence.
