Cover For Tumi's latest collection, Victor Sanz took inspiration from the movement and rhythm of New York City

Drawing on the rhythm of The Big Apple, Victor Sanz unveils Tumi’s Autumn/Winter 2025 collection and shares how the brand is honouring its heritage while shaping a sharper, more lifestyle-driven future

As Tumi closes the chapter on its milestone 50th anniversary year, the brand is entering a new era shaped by design evolution, renewed heritage and an ever-deepening exploration of modern luxury. At the heart of this evolution is Victor Sanz, Tumi’s Creative Director, whose Autumn-Winter 2025 collection draws from the rhythm and dualities of New York City. This season reflects a brand that is both looking back at its legacy and boldly stepping into new lifestyle territories.

For Sanz, the inspiration for Autumn-Winter 2025 begins not with landmarks or visuals, but with New York’s unmistakable pulse. “New York has this incredible rhythm; it’s always moving and alive. For me, it’s less about recreating the city visually and more about capturing that feeling in the work.” He sees the city as a study in contrasts—“structure and spontaneity, polish and ease”—dualities that shape the collection’s forms and materials. “The lightweight nylons, sculpted leathers and clean lines all carry a sense of quiet strength and purpose,” he says, adding that the palette draws from the cool greys of wet pavement and the deep tones of brownstones at dusk. It’s not a literal interpretation, but a translation of mood, movement and intent. “That’s the spirit of New York I wanted to bring to life.”

Marking a 50-year journey naturally brings a sense of reflection, yet Sanz insists the approach was never nostalgic for nostalgia’s sake. “For us, nostalgia was never about looking backward. It was about rediscovering what has always made TUMI exceptional and bringing that spirit into the present,” he says. Subtle nods to the brand’s DNA appear throughout the season—from the contours of 19 Degree to the symbolic presence of TUMI Red. At the same time, new materials and silhouettes signal where the brand is headed next. “In many ways, this collection is a dialogue between past and future,” he adds.

A major part of that dialogue centres on the evolution of Tumi’s women’s line, which continues to grow in sophistication and relevance. “The evolution of our women’s line has been driven by the way our design team observes and listens to the women who carry Tumi,” Sanz explains.

This season introduces new silhouettes such as Olas and Agent, each designed to mirror the fluidity of women’s modern lives. “Olas has a softer sensibility. It’s clean, minimal, and fluid, yet still grounded in strength. It’s the kind of piece that complements you rather than competes with you,” he says. While Agent is for transition and confidence. “It’s sleek and confident. Something that carries you effortlessly from desk to dinner,” he adds. Across the board, Sanz views functionality and elegance as inseparable. “Real elegance isn’t about adding more, it’s about creating something that works beautifully and feels effortless to carry.”

Heritage also takes centre stage this year with the relaunch of two icons: Arrivé and Alpha Bravo. The 50th anniversary, Sanz notes, offered the perfect moment to revisit these pillars. “Arrivé carries that sense of refined precision, while Alpha Bravo speaks to a more rugged, utilitarian energy,” he says. The goal wasn’t to replicate the past but to reimagine it for the modern traveller. This ethos also shows in the final Black & Red anniversary capsule, a striking expression of brand identity. “Black represents refinement and control, while red brings momentum and emotion,” he explains. The capsule distils Tumi’s values into a focused, timeless expression that bridges heritage and future direction.

However, staying relevant requires continuous reinvention and an understanding of how today’s luxury consumers live. “It’s no longer just about how something looks—it’s about purpose, innovation, and authenticity,” Sanz says. Whether through lighter constructions or new materials, every update has intention. “We keep the spirit of the original while designing for how people actually live and travel now.”

Looking ahead, Sanz sees Tumi not just as a travel brand but as a brand of movement in all its forms. “The next chapter is about expanding that idea into every aspect of modern life,” he says. Purpose-driven luxury will guide this evolution. “Luxury today is defined by purpose. It’s not about excess, but about intelligence and intent; design that truly enhances the way people move through the world.”

One example of this broader direction is the introduction of the 19 Degree Bar Set, a sculptural home object that demonstrates how Tumi can live beyond the journey itself. “Your luggage often goes back into the closet once you’ve arrived, but the Bar Set was designed to stay present,” Sanz shares. It reflects both craftsmanship and celebration, and signals how the brand will continue exploring. “What I love most is that it connects back to who we are as a brand: always finding ways to be part of life’s journey, in every form it takes.”

As Tumi steps into its next era, this blend of heritage, innovation and purpose positions the brand firmly within the future of luxury. Sanz shares this sentiment and adds, “In ten years time, I believe we’ll still be pushing boundaries—redefining what modern travel looks and feels like, and deepening that connection between innovation and emotion. At its core, Tumi will always be about movement, craftsmanship, and creating lasting companions for the journey.”
