Organised by the Textile and Fashion Federation (Taff), Singapore Stories 2021 wants to promote local design and find tomorrow's fashion design maestro. Tatler Singapore will join in the search and produce a four-part reality TV series about it

Who will become Singapore's next big fashion designer to follow in the footsteps of luminaries such as Thomas Wee, Andrew Gn and Lai Chan? And who can design the most outstanding six-look capsule collection, themed "Fashion and Technology: A New Era", especially since Singapore embraces digitalisation and technology as a smart nation

This creative mind will be discovered at Singapore Stories 2021, a fashion design competition organised by the Textile and Fashion Federation (Taff). Taff is a non-profit organisation that supports and develops Singapore's textile and fashion industry and positions the country as an innovative fashion hub that focuses on technology and innovation, sustainability, and Asian craftsmanship.

Candidates who fulfil the requirements and impress with their sketches and moodboard will undergo structured mentoring sessions throughout the competition. They will learn the ropes from business and design mentors such as Essec professor Sonja Prokopec and Mollie Jean De Dieu, general manager of Longchamp Singapore and Malaysia, who will be able to provide feedback and offer guidance to them. Semi-finalists will get to showcase one look from their capsule collection at Design Orchard and on Taff’s online platform, OneOrchard.Store.

The eventual winner will receive the Singapore Fashion Award trophy, retail opportunities locally and regionally for their label as well as participate at Paris Fashion Week; there will also be an exhibition at the Asian Civilisations Museum Contemporary Gallery for him or her to showcase her works.

Novel Approach

Tatler Singapore is the official luxury media partner for the 2021 edition of Singapore Stories. Besides event reportage of Singapore Stories 2021, Tatler will be flexing its creative muscles to produce its first reality TV series-like videos to document the blood, sweat and tears from the contestants during the competition. A total of four videos will be hosted on tatlersingapore.com and Taff.

"For the past year or so, Tatler Singapore has been working hard at creating innovative video content and now we're very excited to produce our first mini reality TV series," says Susana Tsui Fitzpatrick, president of Tatler Asia (Singapore). "But more importantly, our involvement will help the contestants of Singapore Stories 2021 gain more prominence as well as give them a platform to nurture their design talents. Singapore is the springboard to the future of Asian fashion and with our country's pool of young outstanding talent, there is a huge possibility that we can unearth the next big name during the competition."

Interested applicants can send their applications via the Singapore Stories website. Applications close on March 19 at 6pm.
