StyleFestPH 2019 featured Philippine culture through the eyes of influential designers in a runway show titled ROOTS. Held at the Grand Hyatt Manila on 4 November, they displayed local fabrics that are heavily rooted on Filipino aesthetics and truly fit for the global stage.
Paloma Urquijo Zobel took the stage with her quirky and artsy designs of expertly woven Filipino fabrics hailing from the cities and provinces her brand, PIOPIO, has collaborated with throughout the years. Jor-el Espina presented his iconic take on “Bomberong” (a play on words for bomber jacket and barong tagalog) as a way of promoting cultural preservation. “I really want every Filipino to wear barong not only in formal occasions but also on a daily basis”, he said.
Chris Nick displayed his “ultimate summer fantasy” in his collection. With elegance and style, he weaves traditional, fresh, edgy, and wearable designs into his minimalist pieces. While, Mark Bumgarner revealed her first collection entirely inspired by the traditional Filipiniana dominated by his emblematic gowns adorned with bell-shaped sleeves.
Globe Telecom’s lifestyle brand, 0917 Lifestyle, together with the country’s premier event agency, SAGA Events, created StyleFestPH as a platform for young Filipino fashion designers to showcase their creativity and craftsmanship and to promote Filipino fashion through various initiatives.
