Fresh Perspectives

Whatever it is you thought you knew, think again. This season, it's all about mastering the art of unpredictability—we're talking bold blocky colours, sweeping shapes and knife-sharp tailoring.

Balenciaga from head to toe, the outfit is a dramatic contrast of colours and shapes, with the sharp boots set against the loose-fitting flow of the top and cape

A dash of solid black gives some grounding to the clashing colours, as in the case of this Versace jacket paired with inky leggings and block heels

Pastel was everywhere in 2016, but this year it's all about super pale or bold and bright shades. Trade in your baby blues for something with a more metallic glint: it's edgier, more sophisticated, and a subtle way to incorporate colour into your wardrobe.

A pale fur-trimmed trench coat from Prada is perfect with a matching set of steel-blue printed shorts and blouse from Miu Miu. The patterns are complemented by the block-colour coat, and the outfit's colour continuity pulls the entire look together.

Accessories can make or break an outfit, and these Prada sandals are a simple way to spruce up your wardrobe. Fur-lined kitten heels and block wedges are both summer essentials. A pair of Alexander McQueen sunglasses is another way to make a statement with bold shapes.

For a sharp silhouette, consider asymmetrical styles and pointed toes. Contrast free-flowing fabrics with angular cuts, and look to the '80s for super-shoulder inspiration: the bigger, the better.

These boots were made for walking—and talking, in this case, because nothing makes a louder fashion statement than Balenciaga's over-the-knee purple spandex boots. For something with more subtle star-power, the glitz of these golden Louis Vuitton ankle boots is sure to turn heads.

And for the ultimate twist on staid officewear, take a look at this Balenciaga asymmetrical skirt: it's equal measures quirky and cute, but with a tailored aesthetic to bring it back to earth.

Step into spring with clean lines and light colours, but give your look a brand new aesthetic with textured fabrics and a carefully curated monochrome vibe.

Dior's ready-to-wear spring/summer 2017 collection puts things in black and white with a quilted crop top featuring the signature Dior bee emblem. Paired with a pair of metal aviator sunglasses, Dior's lacy tulle top avoids being too twee with sharp, modern horizontal lines.

From tailored workwear to utility-inspired casual clothes, this month we're taking a turn towards the practical, but that doesn't mean sacrificing style.

The double denim look is given a fresh overhaul with loose jeans from Isabelle Marant and a gold-detailed jacket and top from Mary Kantrantzou. But if baggy pants aren't your thing, a fitted jacket and trousers from Givenchy create a stunning, sleek silhouette.
