The Olympics inspired the collection in a huge way
Sports was clearly front of mind for Maria Grazia Chiuri this season. Tracksuits, windbreakers, bicycle shorts, tights and more were woven throughout the collection, emblazoned with vibrant prints that recalled the azure of the Mediterranean Sea and the sandy hues of its beaches. “Sport is movement, sport is freedom. During lockdown, you would walk around your building just to get a sense of moving your body. That became our idea of freedom,” the designer explained to Vogue. Sneakers were the footwear of choice, accented in winning metallics and neon brights. Of course, with the Tokyo Olympics coming up, it must have been on Chiuri’s mind to pay homage to one of the world’s oldest sporting events as well.
