Are those church bells we hear? As June brides begin their march towards the aisle, Tatler pays tribute to some of the most inspiring gowns we've seen on the silver screen.
Crazy Rich Asians
It's no surprise that the wedding dress from Crazy Rich Asians tops our list for most iconic. Araminta Lee wore a cross between a wedding dress and a catsuit, embedded with thousands of gold Swarovski crystals. Costume designer, Mary Vogt, revealed that it took 30 people three weeks to finish bedazzling the iconic outfit, specially made to emphasise Sonoya Mizuno's dancer's body.
Estimated Value: Though it's difficult to find an estimate for the dress alone, the Crazy Rich Asians crew has admitted that the total wedding scene had a budget of USD40 million.
Audrey Hepburn has been a style icon for decades now. Though she's donned multiple wedding dresses, her most celebrated remains to be the one she wore in Funny Face alongside Fred Astaire. This Givenchy creation featured a full skirt with a dropped waist and a tight bodice, accentuating Hepburn's incredibly svelte figure. The dress's Sabrina neckline has also been greatly associated with Hepburn's overall style and remains to be one of her most emblematic sartorial hallmarks. Another fun fact? Meghan Markle wore something similar to her wedding day with Prince Harry: a Givenchy number with a bateau neckline that some people estimate can cost upwards of USD340,000.
Estimated value: Though there has been no public figure released for how much Hepburn's Givenchy dress cost, we know that a modern-day Givenchy wedding gown can reach hundreds of dollars. Kim Kardashian's Givenchy dress (which she wore to her 2014 nuptials to Kanye West) is valued at around USD500,000.
Twilight: Breaking Dawn
In 2011, when everyone was absolutely obsessed with Twilight, fans swooned over Bella's (Kirsten Stewart) wedding dress in Breaking Dawn. The Carolina Herrera gown was made from French Chantilly lace and crepe satin. For the scene, stylists paired it with white Manolo Blahnik heels.
Estimated Value: USD35,000
The Sound Of Music
Julie Andrews played Maria Von Trapp in the 1965 film The Sound of Music. Her wedding dress, which was fairly modest, featured long sleeves, an A-line skirt, and a low V-neck. It was so iconic that it raised over USD23,000 in auction.
Estimated Value: USD23,000
Rom-com Bride Wars featured two lifelong best friends who vie for the same wedding location. Though both characters (played by Anne Hathaway and Kate Hudson) wore beautiful dresses, the true star of the show seemed to be Hudson's Vera Wang wedding dress. With a ballgown skirt and a sweetheart neckline, this beautiful number is the quintessential dream wedding dress.
Estimated value: USD6,000
Sex And The City
Sarah Jessica Parker stuns as Carrie Bradshaw in a floor-length Vivienne Westwood gown. Though not quite as sleek as some may prefer their wedding dresses to be, this number proved popular when Net-a-Porter began offering a shortened version of the famous gown. It sold out immediately at USD9,875 per dress. Those who prefer Carrie Bradshaw's original floor-length version may opt for it at USD15,700 from the designer herself.
Estimated Value: USD15,700
Amanda Seyfried's bohemian wedding dress from Mamma Mia! was created by costume designer Ann Roth. The tiered dress features dainty blue flowers that paired beautifully with the matching floral veil.
Estimated value: Though it's difficult to put an exact price tag on Seyfried's dress, we do know that an average wedding in Greece costs around USD20,000. We just wonder how much of it goes to the dress!
