Gherardo Felloni joined Roger Vivier this March, and has since given the heritage brand a spin

Gherardo Felloni hails from Miu Miu, where he served as the creative director of footwear since 2014, and has also worked at Christian Dior under John Galliano and Raf Simons

While spring/summer 2019 will be his debut collection, we’ve seen his new handbags, sneakers and heels sprinkled across the Roger Vivier stores already. We take a deeper dive to explore what's to come from Felloni's debut collection for the French maison:

A brand new logo

New logos have been instrumental in building new brand identities—just look at Celine and Burberry—and Felloni has taken this chance to modernised the cursive Roger Vivier logo and opted for an all-caps logo in a bold san serif font, which has refreshed soles of shoes, and even the shoe boxes.

Although not completely eschewing the cursive logo (it remains on some of the brand’s classic styles), the new logo has been adopted on ballerina flats, sneakers and smoking slippers.

Buckles get bigger

Felloni has taken the French maison’s classic pilgrim buckle and adopted it in a big way. Supersized on bags, belts, slippers and heels, the thin brass or rhinestone encrusted buckle will undoubtedly continue to be one of Roger Vivier's icons.

One of our favourites from the new season is the Très Vivier chain strap handbag, a great day-to-night wardrobe staple.

Lights, camera, drama!

It's no secret that Gherardo is a fan of the arts; he has a deep passion for interior design, vintage jewellery and singing opera as a tenor. He even invited an opera singer to perform during his spring/summer 2019 press presentation during Paris Fashion Week.

What to expect from his debut collection? Expect fanciful feathers, crystal and pearl accents, satin rosettes, all topped off with bigger bows and buckles—Felloni is not one to shy away from dramatic details.

Sneaker show

While Gherardo’s background and interest may lie in the theatrics, there is also no denying that the luxury fashion sneakers is a market that shows no sign of slowing down.

One of the first styles of Gherardo’s to debut in stores is the Viv’Run, a tech-mesh running sneaker with a little height hidden in the soles for that extra oomph. Opt for the navy or black trainers with jewelled buckles for a little daytime sparkle, or keep it clean in their all-white option.

All in the archives

Felloni dove deep into the rich archives of Roger Vivier for his debut collection, and he drew a lot of insipration from the 50's and 60's. One of Monsieur Vivier's most famous creations is the comma heel, a pointed pump with a slanted stiletto heel, mirroring the shape of a comma.

Gherardo applied this heel shape to kitten heels and satin booties, and even topped it off with a chic, asymmetrical bow.
