Cover Rachel and Ellery at Burberry Kids

On a special mom-and-daughter day out at The Shoppes, the duo uncover kids-friendly treasures from children’s skincare, dining options and dedicated childrenswear sections within luxury duplex boutiques

There are kids who look like their parents, and then there’s Rachel Wee and her daughter Ellery Chen who have an almost uncanny resemblance to one another. Truly her mom’s mini me, Ellery bears the same large doe-eyes, enviably plump pout and the sweetest cheeks—but most of all, under that adorable exterior lies a feisty personality that both of them share too.

Known as the “brave one” when it comes to her own siblings, Rachel may be younger than her jie jie Cheryl, but she has always stepped up to the plate be it an adventure or a school bully, and Ellery certainly takes this spirit from her. “She loves the camera and is very excited about the shoot”, exclaimed Rachel when we were making arrangements for this big filming day.

Sure enough, the little girl arrived to The Shoppes at Marina Bay Sands with a skip in her step, clad in a striking tiger printed Kenzo shirt and ball skirt combination that, of course, perfectly matched mummy’s black and gold ensemble in the exact same silhouette—adorned with a Chanel pearl necklace, no less.

Their first stop on this day of discovery saw them at Digital Light Canvas. A nature-based art adventure, this large, immersive space encourages kids including little Ellery to hop from blooming flower to slithering snake with its flora and fauna-inspired interactive ecosystem.

Their shopping day out officially kicked off at Kids21, where the two discovered Bonpoint, a kids fashion brand which also produces its own line of hypo-allergenic beauty products. Formulated with ingredients derived from the most natural sources, each product follows the strictest “clean beauty” guidelines and is dermatologically tested on the most sensitive skin. Bonpoint also offers fragrances, and each product has been made with at least 90 per cent ingredients of natural origin, with each one crafted with sensory appeal to promote different modes of well-being by encouraging rituals with sumptuous textures and an orange blossom olfactory signature that’s proven to relax the mind and improve quality of sleep.

The dynamic duo were next spotted at Fendi's duplex boutique where mummy shopped at the luxurious ladies floor before they visited the adorable childrenswear and accessories sections. From monogrammed dresses and strollers, to sparkling pink sequin handbags, the two couldn’t help but reach out for perfect pairings.

At Burberry's luxury duplex, Rachel and Ellery explored the British fashion house’s signatures: the Burberry check, and the trenchcoat, which mummy mentioned would be a wardrobe staple on her travels having already traipsed across Japan and Australia with Ellery this year.

The same way an Energiser bunny needs a recharge, it came time for Ellery to fuel up—and the two strolled on over to Angelina for a quaint little meal overlooking passersby on the sampan. Perfect for couples, friends and families alike, Angelina is a French tea room that’s best known for its famed L’Africain hot chocolate, and desserts such as the light yet luscious chestnut Mont-Blanc. But if you have a bit more time, as did Rachel and Ellery, savour a full meal at this scenic restaurant as they, too, have a children’s set menu, and a whole menu of Parisian bistro favourites for grown-ups—think traditional French duck confit, creamy truffle cheese pasta, hearty croque-monsieur, oven-baked camembert and escargots.

Satisfied with the various dishes and sweet treats savoured, both Rachel and Ellery were thoroughly recharged and raring to go, with the little one running back to the luxury children's precinct where daddy Ken Chen met them to spend more quality time that afternoon.
