Sandra Bullock’s razor-sharp tailoring and Nicole Kidman’s fluid slips give the ‘Practical Magic 2’ press tour its style narrative, reflecting the contrasting styles of Sally and Gillian

Twenty-eight years after Practical Magic was written off as too witchy for its own good, Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman have turned the sequel’s press tour into something sharper than a victory lap: a wardrobe argument for why opposites, not matching gowns, make the strongest sisterly language. Bullock’s take on Sally Owens moves through padded shoulders, starched collars and corsetry—tailoring worn like protective spellwork. Kidman answers as Gillian in bias-cut slips, sheer lace and paillettes that move like water.

Across several stops of the Practical Magic 2 tour, from CinemaCon to a surprise appearance at a cemetery screening, the pair built a study in contrast, proving that structure and softness can share one carpet without ever competing for it.

CinemaCon 2026: scarlet tailoring meets a shadow-black slip

At Cinemacon 2026, Sandra Bullock reintroduced herself in Gabriela Hearst’s tomato-red suiting, its padded shoulders and bold colour reading as pure, grounded authority. Nicole Kidman went the other way entirely, in a slip built from cascading black chiffon and raw asymmetric ruffles. Nothing matched, and that was the point—Sally’s armour against Gillian’s shadow, establishing the Practical Magic 2 tour’s chromatic logic before a single frame of the film had screened.

London premiere: leopard-print bite versus sequinned siren

Leicester Square brought the tour’s first true tension. Sandra Bullock’s strapless Givenchy, in Sarah Burton’s moody leopard faille with its sculptural hip bow, gave Sally an untamed, terrestrial edge rarely seen on her. Nicole Kidman, in custom Chanel paillettes with suspended pearls and gold chains, floated beside her like a water nymph. One gown hunted; the other shimmered—a predator and a siren, deliberately never dressed as twins.

London photocall: Puritan tailoring meets a boudoir slip

Daylight softened the drama but sharpened the contrast. Sandra Bullock’s Erdem hybrid—tuxedo jacket, guipure-bordered skirt, funeral-white collar—read almost clerical. Nicole Kidman’s minimalist Chanel slip, with its pearl straps and drop-waist flounce, felt lifted straight from a dressing table. Structure versus undress, Puritan restraint versus lingerie ease: the Owens sisters’ opposing instincts, distilled into daywear.

Sandra Bullock turned menswear on its head here, pairing pinstriped shirting with an ivory corset that read as a conceptual nod to witch-trial-era imagery—one of the tour’s boldest style swings, and proof she was still willing to experiment deep into the run. Nicole Kidman met her with quiet romance: a cabernet Rodarte slip trimmed in Chantilly lace and silk ribbon ties, the tour’s most direct echo of Gillian’s original 1998 wardrobe, soft where Bullock stayed architectural.

At the Practical Magic 2 tour’s high point, Sandra Bullock’s custom Louis Vuitton, in ink-black velvet with starched white cuffs, was pure clerical solemnity. Nicole Kidman countered in Pieter Mulier’s first Atelier Versace look—sheer hand-intarsia lace over nude mesh—a gossamer, gothic-romantic reveal that needed no comparison to land.

Under Hollywood Forever’s fairy lights, the duality softened into ease in an appearance at Cinespia. Sandra Bullock’s tuxedo blazer over sheer chiffon kept her tailoring instinct intact, just looser. Nicole Kidman’s column dress, featuring geometric cutouts, gave her fluidity a sharper edge. Even off-duty, Sally’s armour and Gillian’s allure never quite dissolved into one another. Joey King and Maisie Williams joined them onstage for a midnight margarita toast.
