Torn between what to wear or you simply have no idea where to start? Let these 3 local designers who have designed countless couture pieces for our previous balls past point you in the right direction.

Now that we have established what encompasses ‘Black Tie’ when it comes to dressing for our 27th anniversary Tatler Ball, we can have a more fun look at what to stand out in.

The princess gown will always draw a few gasps of awe while the mermaid cut is a great way to show off that lithe and slender figure. Tube dresses are a must for those with amazing collarbones while the athletic ladies may want to show off that toned back with a plunging backline.

"Fluidity is the in word in the fashion industry at the moment; dresses  are breathed across the bodice instead of caging one in. Also, blush colours create a fresh hue or a subtle tweak on a traditional silhouette. There is also a modern mix of glamour, grandeur, and simplicity. A loose-fitting silk and organza dresses embellished with fine sequins is what I can foresee coming a lot at the Tatler red carpet this year for that dreamy and dramatic look. This year, ball gowns or tapered pencil dresses with hanging hemlines are the way to go. Soft dresses with a twist of silk flowing on it are also in – break the femininity with metal hardware or brave accessories."

"I am seeing trend to go towards something more voluminous although something form-fitting is an all time favourite. I still do get a lot of requests for illusion neckline with lace for red carpet events. A ballgown style dress with great details will always command attention for its regal appeal and for this season I would recommend something colourful and vibrant."

"A lot of designs are leaning towards Victorian high neck this season, particularly the empire cut and basically higher neck cut. In shape, simplicity is strong, as well as a generous mix of fabrics like tulle for texture. When it comes to bottoms, the more voluminous, the better. Personally, I’ve been getting a lot of requests for round neck and empire cut along with a lot of laces and tulle. See-through textures are given strong detailing with heavy hand embroidery. If you want to stand out, go off-shoulder and choose generously voluminous bottoms."
