Silvia Venturini Fendi and her daughters Delfina and Leonetta Fendi on strong women, family ties and precious heirlooms.
Think of the word 'peekaboo', and one of the first things that come to mind might be the childhood game you used to play with your mother, or perhaps a younger sibling. And just like how those fond memories might evoke a sense of wonder and amusement, the Fendi Peekaboo, too, has been often described as wondrous and precious.
As the iconic bag turns 10 this year, Fendi Peekaboo creator Silvia Venturini Fendi and her daughters Delfina and Leonetta Fendi shares with us why this "baby" is close to their hearts.
What does the Peekaboo mean to you?
Silvia Venturini Fendi (SVF) The Peekaboo is my baby. It’s a creature that belongs to me.
What's one word you would use to describe the Peekaboo?
SVF Timeless. I really think it’s one of those objects you want to belong to your family. You buy a Peekaboo not only thinking that you will wear it now, but also that you are going to wear it in the future and one of your daughters will probably steal it from your closet. It’s one of those objects that will stay with you for all the time.
How would you describe your daughters?
SVF Delfina is deep. Leonetta is bright.
Do you think the characters of your daughters ever influenced you while creating a bag?
SVF When I design I have many things in my mind. I always think about an ideal woman, and that’s why there are also different styles to appeal to different personalities. I am very happy if my daughters use my bags, but when I design I always prefer to relate to someone that doesn’t exist.
How would you describe the women in your family?
The women in the Fendi family are women with a strong personality. At the same time, they are passionate, they really love deeply. And they like to break rules. So, I would say: strong, passionate and revolutionary.
Over the years, the Fendi Peekaboo has been outfitted in multiple colours, textures and sizes. Here are some of our favourites:
