Ever true to her beauty queen roots, Pia Wurtzbach shares another remarkable feat: she is the first Miss Universe titleholder to open the Arab Fashion Week.
Challenges brought by the COVID-19 pandemic can prove worrisome for lifestyle events that thrive on personal experiences, but actress and host Pia Wurtzbach refused to cave in and made history as the first Miss Universe titleholder to open the prestigious Arab Fashion Week.
Pia is set to open the Arab Fashion Week with the avant-garde craft of Dubai-based, Filipino Designer Furne One. On Instagram, the beauty queen shared a teaser of the video directed by Alex Suhorucov.
Filmed against the backdrop of rock formations at Buhais Geology Park in Sharjah, United Arab Emirates, Pia is seen wearing gothic-esque pieces drawn from Furne One’s love for unique and inherent quintessential edginess.
It can be recalled that amid the pandemic, Pia humbly shared some of her advocacies—her online initiative which brought 44,000 face masks to the hands of medical frontliners in the Metro, and her active participation in the World Wildlife Foundation (WWF).

Furne One, dubbed as the “King of Couture” in Dubai, already worked alongside Hollywood’s who’s-who including Lady Gaga, Jennifer Lopez, Ariana Grande, Nicki Minaj, Beyonce, and Katy Perry.
“The five-minute fashion film titled ‘Inner Sanctum’ which means a very private and holy place is a sartorial homage to AMATO’s quest to life. The film is all about a woman’s journey to life; distracted by her inner good and evil, but eventually finding her own strength and confronting her own fears to face the uncertain world,” Furne One said.
According to Filipino-led communications agency Yugen PR, the opening video is an exclusive partnership deal with Pia. The agency also implied that this is not their last project with the beauty queen.
“We are thrilled to officially announce our exclusive partnership deal with Miss Universe Pia Wurtzbach here in the Middle East market. We look forward to all wonderful projects lined up for her in this part of the world where there are four Million Filipinos as well as millions of beauty pageant fans,” Yugen PR Dubai's Managing Director Ian Borromeo said in a statement.
Arab Fashion Week is the latest major fashion event to go virtual as movements remain restricted in the Middle East. With the theme “Dream Big, Travel Beyond”, the five-day occasion will be streamed exclusively on the Arab Fashion Council’s official Facebook and Instagram accounts from 24 to 28 March.
