Catriona Gray designed an imaginative collection that is both fashion-forward and environmentally friendly

Nowadays, being fashionable and environmentally friendly is in the bag—literally. Megaworld Lifestyle Malls and Catriona Gray recently released the Enviro Chic Bag collection. Gray, who stunned the world as Miss Universe 2018, has always had strong advocacies, particularly for women’s rights and supporting locally made handicrafts. The launch, held at Newport World Resorts, was a significant one, showing that efforts to be sustainable are alive and thriving.

The Enviro Chic bag is made up of upcycled tarpaulins, which means that each bag is designed to be distinct, unique, and memorable. Available in black and taupe colours, this new collection is without a doubt stylish regardless of your outfit or ensemble. Thanks to the materials used, it is also impressively durable, making it an excellent choice for everyday use, whether it’s to the mall or an after-work function.

Above The Enviro Chic Bag Collection launch event was led by president and chief executive officer of Alliance Global Group Inc Kevin Tan, sustainability advocate and Enviro Chic Bag designer Catriona Gray, and head of Megaworld Lifestyle Malls Graham Coates; they were joined by PCX commercial director Rudi Ramin and owner of Side B Upcycling Retail Inc, Ralph Balmaceda

The spotlight was firmly on Gray, the mind and designer behind the Enviro Chic bag. The bag was launched through a fashion show, featuring previous Miss Philippines Earth winners Irha Mel Alfeche, Jenny Ramp, and Naelah Alshorbaji. Kevin Tan, president and chief executive officer of Alliance Global Group Inc, the parent company of Megaworld Corporation, led the event alongside Nilo Thaddeus Rodriguez, president and chief executive officer of Travellers International Hotel Group, the owner and operator of Newport World Resorts, and Graham Coates, first vice president and head of Megaworld Lifestyle Malls.

They were also joined by Ralph Balmaceda, owner of Side B Upcycling Retail Inc, which transforms waste and recyclable materials into genuine pieces of fashion, with the help of local craftsmen. Plastic Credit Exchange (PCX) commercial director Rudi Ramin and PCX sustainability manager Kathleen also attended the event. Their company helps other groups reduce their negative impact on the environment, and their presence cements Megaworld Lifestyle Malls and Gray’s advocacies. The bags can be redeemed at Megaworld Lifestyle Malls’ concierges in Eastwood City, Newport City, Venice Grand Canal, Uptown Mall, and Lucky Chinatown. The bags—the Large Tote, 3-Way Folio, and Essentials Bucket, are all redeemable with a donation of plastic bottles and single-purchase receipts amounting to PHP 7,000, PHP 5,000, and PHP 3,000, respectively.

Sustainability is more important than ever, and Catriona Gray’s partnership with Megaworld Lifestyle Malls is a significant stride into the right direction. It is sure to inspire others to follow in their footsteps and encourage further visionary initiatives such as this. The Enviro Chic bag is aptly named—wearing it isn’t just a fashion statement; it’s an environmental one.
