Playful, girlish and youthful, veteran designer Karl Lagerfeld's latest collection is one that is "a flourish of decorative opulence twisted with an athletic élan".
It was a sparkly, shiny, star-studded affair at the Fendi Spring Summer 2017 show last week with celebrities lending their glamour to the red carpet, front rows as well as the catwalks.

It was an affair witnessed by powerhouse names like Serena Williams, Anna Dello Russo, Izabel Goulart, Chiarra Feragni and of course, the Godmother of fashion, Anna Wintour.

On the catwalk, the Hadid sisters Gigi and Bella added to the celebrity stardust with glittered lips and relaxed hair that are as refreshing as the new collection featuring a sorbet palette of apricot, blush pink and pale mint. Closer scrutiny reveals what looks like candy pinned to the hair of models, an homage to cartoon princess Vanellope von Schweets from 'Wreck-It Ralph', which Lagerfeld himself professed to having based the looks of the night upon.
Mini dresses with billowing sleeves and assymetrical hemlines opened the show, bringing back Fendi's iconic pequin and regimental stripes for a sense of uniform vigour.
The season's trend of crop tops and bralettes continues with a sportier edge of bold stripes balancing out the girlish pastels and tulle.
Before long, things softened into cascading silhouettes that fall in light volumes, bringing to mind floaty forest imps, perfectly tying in with the abundance of florals that appear in the top key looks.
While most of the pieces were modest in cut, sheer skirts that let lingerie peek out maintained a playful proportion. Rosette and bow appliques kept things light-hearted in workwear shapes while floating aprons and ribbon-tied gowns cinch waists for neat and flattering silhouettes. The collection takes on a liquid touch with satin and patent leather in high sheen, glistening with more French garden florals.
True to Fendi's reputation, it was a collection of exquisite materials made particularly extravagant with cloque jacquard, sheer organdy prints and embossed satin.
The show also debuted the new Kan I stud lock bag that, just like the rest of the collection, comes with candy-coloured studs, rosette ambroidery and, just in case you're still not enough in the mood for spring, more floral ribbons.
The signature Peekaboo and DotCom bags are also given lively updates with an eclectic mix of embellished Strap You in multiple lengths.
Matching the knit sweaters that also made an appearance, the season's shoes feature a eye-catching array of stretch calf-length boots and trainers, made ready for spring with bands of colour and laced with grosgrain ribbon.
