In our brand new online series, we chat to some of Hong Kong's most sharply dressed gentlemen to gain inspiration and insight into what it takes to be a 'Man Of Style'.

Formerly the fashion editor at Hong Kong Tatler, Arne Eggers is now vice-president of prestigious international PR firm Karla Otto in Asia. He spends his time helping some of the most iconic luxury fashion brands connect to the world. Who better to take on our questions on men's style than this fashion-savvy gent?

Describe your personal style.

Relaxed chic with an occasional touch of eccentricity. I prefer an overall polished look but try not to make it too formal—I usually wear mandarin collar shirts so I never need a tie. My wardrobe has become increasingly monochrome, mainly because I’m travelling all the time and it’s much easier to pack.

Any fashion faux pas you'd rather forget?

Not really. There have certainly been some questionable choices in the past, but I think it’s best to just own it!

What's your go-to outfit this summer?

Loewe leather espadrilles, white linen shirts and a good pair of sunglasses—my current favourites are from Tomas Maier.

Favourite tailor?

For the perfect bespoke suit I’d head to Gieves & Hawkes on No. 1 Savile Row in London. For me they are the ultimate tailor—they have a history spanning more than 200 years and a client list ranging from the Duke of Windsor to Michael Jackson.

Favourite item of clothing?

This changes all the time but at the moment my favourite pieces are an elegantly crumpled Valentino field jacket and a simple kaftan shirt made from beautiful black Italian linen from British India in Kuala Lumpur.

Favourite scent?

I currently alternate between Byredo Bal d'Afrique and Lord George from Penhaligon's Portrait collection.

Favourite accessories?

I usually carry a zipped leather pouch—my favourite one is by Kotur, made from beautiful tan leather and given to me by Fiona Kotur Marin some years ago. I always wear a bracelet of black onyx beads and also love the minimalist bracelets by French jeweller Le Gramme

Where do you shop?

I do much of my shopping online, most of it on Mr Porter. Otherwise, I tend to shop while I’m travelling—it helps that my work takes me to Milan and Paris every few months.

What are your bathroom cabinet essentials?

I have sensitive skin so I try to keep it simple. I mostly use light Avène products on my face but boost my skin with Hyaluronic Serum from Laboratoires Novexpert when I travel to dry climates like Beijing. For my hair, I use Bumble & Bumble styling cream and finish it up with a touch of wax from Japanese brand Architex.

Lastly, any tips on how to stay stylish?

The most important thing is to stay true to your own style rather than blindly follow the trends. I would advise investing in wardrobe staples that will last for years, and then update your look with a couple of statement pieces now and then. That way, you can inject some newness into your style without having to buy a whole new wardrobe each season.
