Louis Vuitton is once again redefining the future of travel with the launch of Horizon Aluminum
For Louis Vuitton, travel has never been simply about moving from one destination to another. Since the 19th century, the French fashion house has built its reputation as a creator of objects that accompany people around the world—from the traveling trunks of royalty to the suitcases that have become symbols of global lifestyle. This year, exactly a decade after introducing the Horizon luggage collection with visionary industrial designer Marc Newson, Louis Vuitton is redefining the future of travel with the launch of Horizon Aluminum.
More than just a new suitcase, Horizon Aluminum is a modern interpretation of the Art of Travel heritage that has been in Louis Vuitton's DNA for over 170 years.
The collaboration between Louis Vuitton and Marc Newson began long before Horizon arrived. The Australian designer, known as one of the world's most influential industrial designers, first collaborated with Louis Vuitton in 2014 on a reinterpretation of the Monogram bag, before later designing an exclusive perfume bottle for the house. However, their biggest project was actually an idea that took years to develop: creating a suitcase that could become an icon of 21st-century travel, just as Louis Vuitton's trunks became a symbol of mobility in their time.
The result was born in 2016 in the form of Horizon, a minimalist striped suitcase with an innovative wheel system that quickly became one of Louis Vuitton's most iconic travel collections.
Now, exactly ten years later, the next evolution arrives with Horizon Aluminum.

Future Materials Rooted in History
The choice of aluminum wasn't simply driven by modern aesthetics. This material has long been a part of Louis Vuitton's history. In the late 19th century, the house created aluminum trunks for explorers who needed extra protection on extreme journeys.
Today, the same material is presented again in a new context.
Lightweight yet incredibly strong, impact-resistant, and infinitely recyclable, aluminum represents a balance between technological innovation and sustainability. For Marc Newson, this material also holds personal significance, having become a signature element in his designs over the past decades.
The combination of these two histories creates a suitcase that feels futuristic, yet remains deeply rooted in Louis Vuitton's heritage.

Simplicity that Hides Complexity
Like many of the best designs, Horizon Aluminum appears simple on the surface. But beneath its clean silhouette lies a highly complex engineering process.
The shell is formed through a series of stamping and laser cutting processes that allow the aluminum sheet to retain Horizon's signature rounded curves. Interestingly, this process not only shapes the suitcase's structure but also creates a relief of the Louis Vuitton Monogram directly on its surface.
The monogram is not just a decorative ornament.
Rather than using horizontal grooves like conventional aluminum suitcases, the Monogram pattern serves as a structural element, reinforcing the rigidity of the suitcase's shell. In other words, Louis Vuitton's visual identity is also part of the product's engineering.

The World's First Rivet-Free Aluminum Suitcase
Marc Newson's obsession with minimalist design led to one of the most interesting technical achievements in this project.
Horizon Aluminum is the world's first aluminum suitcase made without external rivets.
Instead of using traditional metal joints, Louis Vuitton developed an ultra-thin frame system that fuses directly to the aluminum shell. The result is a much cleaner surface while also reinforcing the Horizon's futuristic character.
The same applies to the hinge system. While aluminum suitcases typically feature large hinges on the outside, Horizon Aluminum hides them completely inside, resembling the precision mechanism of a luxury watch.
This approach makes the overall design feel calmer, more elegant, and almost visually uncluttered.

Designed to Accompany Real Journeys
Behind its luxurious appearance, Horizon Aluminum is still made as an object that is actually used.
Louis Vuitton designed this suitcase to withstand a variety of travel conditions, from airport bumps to long-term use. The light scratches and dents that appear over time are even seen as part of the suitcase's character—traces of its journey that enrich its owner's story.
Functionality is also a major concern.
The trolley system is placed on the outside of the suitcase, creating a completely flat interior with more storage space than most suitcases. The main compartment features two safety straps, while the top offers additional storage space with a zippered pocket.
The wider telescopic handle provides comfort while the large, flexible wheels are designed to dampen vibrations and provide smoother, quieter movement.
As a signature Louis Vuitton touch, VVN and black leather details adorn the corners of the suitcase, the top handle, and the side handles.

Safety and Ease of Maintenance
For security, Horizon Aluminum is equipped with a TSA-certified locking system, making it easier to pass international security checks without compromising the protection of the suitcase's contents.
Louis Vuitton also introduced a new approach to after-sales service. The entire interior lining is designed to be easily removable, allowing technicians to access internal components such as wheels and other mechanisms without dismantling the entire suitcase. Leather details can also be repaired or replaced as needed.
The Care & Repair philosophy is part of Louis Vuitton's commitment to extending the lifespan of products through restoration services that can be performed directly in boutiques or regional workshops.

Complete the Collection with the Horizon Aluminum Vanity
Along with the suitcase, Louis Vuitton also presents the Horizon Aluminum Vanity Case.
Featuring the same design language—a Monogram-patterned aluminum shell, an ultra-thin frame, hidden hinges, and Louis Vuitton's signature leather accents—this vanity is designed to be an equally practical travel companion.
The modular interior allows the main divider to be completely removed, allowing storage space to be customized. An elastic strap on the back also allows the vanity to be mounted directly on the Horizon Aluminum telescopic handle.

The New Evolution of the Art of Travel
For over a century, Louis Vuitton has been part of the evolution of how humans travel. From wooden trunks for ocean liners to carry-on luggage for the era of international aviation, each generation brings a new interpretation of mobility.
With Horizon Aluminum, Louis Vuitton once again demonstrates that innovation doesn't always mean abandoning tradition. On the contrary, the future is born when heritage, technology, design, and function converge in a single object designed to endure across generations.
More than just luggage, Horizon Aluminum symbolizes how the Art of Travel continues to evolve—delivering a new standard for luxury travel that combines engineering precision, exceptional durability, and timeless aesthetics.
