September may be just around the corner, but it still feels like summer in this part of the world, and it continues to have a major impact on aesthetics and trends. On the Chinese social network, hundreds of videos show how to reproduce the aesthetic. Features include yellow wicker baskets, flowing and frilly dresses in linen or with floral prints, floaty skirts accessorised with sandals, gold hoop earrings, lipstick, a lemon-yellow manicure and light make-up.
To enhance the look, some women also adorn their hair with yellow flowers, or create a simple braid. Both elegant and discreet, this aesthetic is easy to reproduce as well as affordable.
The lemon girl aesthetic also reflects the resurgence of yellow in fashion. Seen in Valentino and Dior’s pre-fall 2023 collections, key lime, a kind of greenish-yellow tint, is one of the most fashionable colours. It’s also worth noting that this aesthetic, like the tomato girl trend, echoes key elements of Mediterranean style.
Indeed, these looks reflect the recent American obsession with European style. In a move away from the sophisticated looks of previous years, summer fashion in 2023 is clearly inspired by European-style vacations, with Kylie Jenner and Sofia Richie among the American celebrities known for these types of looks.
