The actress, who’s been called the “monster rookie” for her incredible acting chops, has also been lauded for her stylish looks on and off screen. Here are some of them

Kim Da-mi stunned in her first lead role as a genetically-engineered student with superpowers in 2018 film The Witch: Part 1. The Subversion, winning numerous Best New Actress awards. Then, she charmed audiences (and Park Seo-joon) and stole scenes in Itaewon Class, with her quirky and insouciant portrayal of a sociopathic blogger who happens to be a marketing genius. Her funky dip-dyed hair and luxe streetwear style in the hit 2020 K-drama were much lauded and copied, and she picked up a Best New Actress trophy at the Baeksang Arts Awards.

With the recently-concluded Our Beloved Summer, the 26-year-old cemented her status as the cool and off-beat K-drama heroine of choice for those tired of saccharine sweethearts, with an inspiring wardrobe to match. Her own style, as seen on her Instagram, seems to veer towards the oversized and whimsical, and her unconventionally pretty face is the perfect canvas for quirkier make-up and hairstyles.

Her filmography may be short, but Kim Da-mi has already made an impression on audiences and fans with her talent, unusual wide-eyed beauty and interesting threads.

Here are some of her most memorable and stylish looks, both on-screen and off.

1. Snow Queen

As the ice-cool and effortlessly stylish Jo Yi-seo in Itaewon Class, Kim Da-mi practically lived in oversized leather jackets, from fur-trimmed numbers to sleek leather blazers. This one stood out for being dazzlingly white, superbly paired with a turtleneck and chunky jewellery. Top it all off with a I’m-better-than-you sneer for ice princess perfection.

2. Bandana bad-ass

The Internet went crazy for this black leather jacket with a striking red bandana detail on the back when Kim Da-mi wore it in Itaewon Class, and we’re sure these sold out pretty fast at Meow Company, a Korean clothing label. Jo Yi-seo’s knack for melding designer and luxury threads with hip Korean brands and high street labels was all part of her millennial hustle charm.

3. Game, set, mix-and-match

More oversized jacket greatness with this reversible bomber trench from Seoul fashion label Andersson Bell, worn over another trench coat. On anyone else, this busy and bulky look would have swallowed the wearer whole, but on the mighty and unflappable Jo Yi-seo, she’s the boss of this outfit, make no mistake.

4. Happy colourblock vibes

In real life, Kim Da-mi is a little less scowly and a little more smiley, as seen in this pic from her Instagram, where she’s in a cute oversized colourblock sweater. We must say that she really does autumn and winter ensembles very well.

5. Pleats please

She may rock androgynous and unisex looks, but Kim Da-mi can do feminine too, as evidenced in this pleated yellow frock for a magazine shoot, as seen on her IG. It's another look that can overwhelm the wearer, but Kim’s attitude and confidence are strong enough to pull this off.

6. Corporate chic

A little less edgy but no less cool is Kim Da-mi’s style in Our Beloved Summer, where we got to see another side of this versatile actress. She’s a public relations whiz who’s all business with a side of effortless chic, and her simple yet smart casual style in the show is inspiringly real for normal folks.

You don’t always have to try so darn hard to be stylish, as Kim Da-mi’s Kook Yeon-soo in Our Beloved Summer shows. In this aw-shucks, almost couple-matching outfit with Choi Woo-shik’s Choi Ung, she throws on an oversized shirt over a tee and shows us how minimalist chic is done.

8. Sleek with a serving of whimsy

Possibly all dressed up for an awards show or gala event, this pic which Kim Da-mi posted on her IG shows off her posh side, though not without throwing in a slight surprise element with large bows on each shoulder.

10. Warm and fuzzy… or maybe not

We leave you with this reminder that Kim Da-mi really is the queen of the RBF, in this scene from Itaewon Class, where she pairs a fuzzy TOD’S wool cardigan with a black shirt, too-cool-for-school hair and a look that says “You plebeians…”
