'Algodon' showcases five designers who masterfully weaved Ilocos Norte's treasured fabric, farm-produced cotton inabel, and transformed it into grand designs
For two decades, the once-rich tradition of cotton fabric in Pinili, Ilocos, has stagnated. That is until now. In an effort to celebrate its reinvigoration, a team of five designers all grouped together to stage perhaps one of the grandest local fashion shows this year thus far.
Algodon showcased the works of Pepito Albert, BARBA, JC Buendia, Tonichi Nocom, and Randy Ortiz at Gallery 7 of Pintô Art Museum on February 5. Attended by fashion enthusiasts and avid supporters of the Ilocos region, the audience saw some 70 designs descend from the stage of the renowned art gallery to the runway.

The fashion show derived its name from algodon, the Spanish word for cotton. It features designs of inabel fabrics made of pure cotton and dipped in organic dyes.
It highlights both the potential of sustainable, ethically-sourced cotton used for fabric as well as the genius of Filipino designers to create such masterful creations.
