Renowned Chinese couturier Guo Pei unveils 30 new handcrafted pieces at Centrestage 2025, celebrating luminescent gold embroidery in a special collaboration with Hong Kong PolyU fashion students

Guo Pei’s remarkable journey stands as a milestone in Chinese fashion history. As the first Chinese designer welcomed into the prestigious Fédération de la Haute Couture et de la Mode, she has proven herself to be a true visionary. After ten stellar collections at Paris Haute Couture Fashion Week, she gracefully stepped away from the Paris spotlight, but continues to flourish in the haute couture world at her own pace, fuelled by nothing but the pure passion for creativity.

Guo Pei’s connection to Hong Kong dates back to 2010, when she participated in HKTDC’s Hong Kong Fashion Week for fall/winter. 14 years later, M+ held an exhibition titled Guo Pei: Fashioning Imagination (which ended in April this year), to give local audiences a glimpse into her artistic world.

And now that the bond is set to deepen. On September 1, Guo Pei will present her first solo fashion show at M+, opening this year’s Centrestage with 30 meticulously crafted pieces under the theme Gilternity: An Everlasting Radiance.

The Centrestage Elites opening ceremony will showcase her exploration of eternal beauty through couture. In the Instagram video she shared on her own page, she reveals why she chose gold for this collection: “If love is a colour, what would it be? Red seems inadequate... it should be gold.”

The collection showcases 30 handcrafted pieces, each meticulously embroidered to capture the luminescent quality of flowing molten gold. To celebrate her creative heritage, Guo Pei has collaborated with students from Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU) on the opening piece.

The show will be broadcast live across multiple platforms, including Centrestage’s official website. Following the showcase, Guo Pei will lead an intimate masterclass on September 4 at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre as part of Centrestage, sharing insights into her creative journey.
