Dua Lipa and Megan Thee Stallion just walked up on stage wearing the same dress during the Grammys—what happened next was iconic

On the evening of the 64th Annual Grammy Awards, the crowd witnessed what seemed to be a fashion mishap on stage between Grammy winners Dua Lipa and Megan Thee Stallion. The former Best New Artists walked up the stage to present the award and appeared surprised to see each other wearing the same Versace dress: a black maxi dress with a slit held together with the fashion house's signature clothing pin design.

Stallion turned to her co-presenter, "Not you stealing my look!"

"Well, I was told I had the exclusive," Lipa replied in disbelief. "I'm going to have to have a talk with Donatella."

As the two artists bantered, Donatella Versace, wearing a dazzling gold mini dress of her own, walked up the stage to provide a solution.

Versace took one look at Lipa's dress and tore away a piece of fabric, revealing a shorter dress. Then, she turned to Stallion and did the same, revealing a different yet equally gorgeous slit dress. "These are my girls," she said before making her exit.

Stallion added, "Now we all look like winners!" before the two presented the nominees for Best New Artist and gladly handed the Grammy to Olivia Rodrigo.

Fortunately, the moment did not escalate to a bitter end. Clearly, there's no bad blood between the two as this mishap was merely a bit to pay tribute to the divas Mariah Carey and Whitney Houston, who shared a similar experience in 1998.

During the MTV awards in the 90s, Houston showed up onstage alongside Carey who was wearing the same brown gown. "Nice dress," said Carey with a smile. The I Will Always Love You singer responded, "You look pretty good, too."

But the singers were ready for a moment such as this. Carey was the first to rip off a piece of fabric revealing a new style. Whitney had her moment as well by subtly untying the fabric to show a style of her own. The two hugged it out before presenting the award for Best Male Video, which Will Smith won.

It was definitely too iconic of a moment to not recreate.
