This April, the luxury fashion brand will be offering made-to-measure services in Hong Kong for three days only—here's how to make sure you're first in line

So you want to find that perfect suit but—like most regular gents—you’re not built like a male model, which means going to a store and purchasing a jacket and matching pants off the rack and then heading elsewhere to get it altered. Suddenly, suit shopping has become time-consuming and costly. If you can relate, it’s time to buy a made-to-measure suit. Better yet, make it a Giorgio Armani.

The Giorgio Armani name is iconic in luxury and is known for unparalleled modern tailoring, offering both slicing precision and high-end fabrics. And now, the Milanese designer is bringing a little sprezzatura—and his in-house tailors—to Hong Kong in April.

A cut above

Giorgio Armani has been creating made-to-measure suits for sixteen years, and continues to set the bar in the art of crafting quality bespoke attire.

“I decided to create a made to measure service, where a customer gets all the benefits of a tailor-made garment unique fit, fabric, lining, buttons, details as well as the signature Giorgio Armani look,” says Armani, when talking about why he launched the made-to-measure service.

Appointments are a truly luxurious and personal shopping experience—with the help of an expert tailor, customers are invited to feel and try on different silhouettes and fabrics before embarking on a journey of where you'll be part of the entire design process down to the most minute details.

If you’re familiar with made-to-measure already, then you’re probably aware that there can be a certain rigmarole associated with customised suits. But Armani has streamlined all of that so the service is designed to fit in with the busiest of schedules.

Finally, there’s a specific ‘code’ associated with Armani.

“To qualify as a made to measure garment, there are certain things you need to deliver,” says Armani. And the designer and his team adhere to these codes strictly, piece by luxurious piece.

A superior style

Upon arrival, customers are offered a choice of two suit styles. For a contemporary look, there’s the ‘Soho’, boasting a young, sophisticated design with classic details.

Meanwhile, the ‘Wall Street’ is for the traditionalist, with its tailored construction yet comfortable fit. Both allow for a play on preferences: lapel type (peak or notch), button number (one to three usually) and the closure (single or double-breasted).

To the trouser, Armani possesses a relaxed formality; perfectly fitted and comfort-driven, this season offers a pleated waistband, which is both classic and on-trend in 2018.

The finest fabrics

Choose from a selection of fabrics made from natural fibres that offer heat retention and heat disposal, making them perfect for both summer and winter. There’s the famous Armani wool cloth but, if you’re seeking something ultra-luxe and rare, go for the vicuña cloth—a unique wool fabric made from a relative of the llama.

As for patterns and prints, there are several on offer. Think Prince of Wales, Herringbone or Houndstooth, as well as more seasonal fabrics like checks and pinstripes, sourced straight from the current Giorgio Armani ready-to-wear collections.

Suit connoisseurs will also appreciate the jacket construction. Inside, there’s a canvas made from a complex combination of natural materials such as horsehair and goat’s hair, while interfacings are stitched so that they ‘float’, feeling light and fluid as you go about your day.

On the pants, customers have the option to select details like reinforced jet pockets for increased durability and add extra character via button flies instead of the standard zips on pants.
