The debut collection of Ferragamo creative director Maximilian Davis champions accessories that double as sculptural showpieces
Ferragamo’s spring-summer 2023 collection marks a new dawn, with the unveiling of freshly appointed creative director Maximilian Davis. While his entire debut ready-to-wear collection is supremely covetable—think modern Hollywood glamour with flashes of fetishism—its statement accents have certainly added to the applause for Davis.
In the brand’s spring-summer 2023 footwear edit, the Elina sandal is the standout piece. It pays tribute to Ferragamo’s iconic Gancini motif in the form of a cut-out heel, a symbol of the brand’s heritage, craftsmanship and quality, inspired by the iron gates of Ferragamo’s Florence headquarters.
Finished with a cage-like upper strap, the shoes punctuate an outfit like a showstopping piece of jewellery would, meaning you need little else to style up a simple look. While it’s available in an array of colourways, the brand’s bold, emotive new “house red” arguably best complements the striking silhouette.

Davis also offers a clever take on a classic Ferragamo handbag. Drawing upon the house’s original Wanda bag, first introduced in 1988 and named after Salvatore Ferragamo’s wife, the new iteration speaks to the original bag’s boxy silhouette but has a minimalist, futuristic appeal, its smooth leather finished with a high-shine treatment. Paying homage to the roots of the house once again, the label’s Gancini buckles reappear on each side of the handle: a distinctly luxurious touch of hardware.
While the vast range of colourways makes picking a favourite iteration challenging, it’s the ombré version—a meticulously airbrushed degradé effect which fades from fiery Ferragamo red to orange—that arguably speaks the loudest.
These accessories aren’t just supremely successful at straddling the balance of heritage and modernity, but also double up as wearable pieces of art.
