Go behind the curtain with five key fashion-industry females

How do industry insiders pack for fashion week, who do they follow on Instagram and what items are they coveting from the latest collections? We take a peek behind the curtain with five key fashion-industry females to find out.

In this edition of Fashion Insider, we speak with Ida Petersson, womenswear buying director at Browns:

What do you always travel with in fashion month?

Slouchy trousers by Haider Ackermann. They double up as travel and work-wear.

What is the fashion city to watch?

Hands down, Los Angeles. It’s incredible how much talent is coming out of there right now. Adaptation, Re/Done, Building Block, Simon Miller, Nick Fouquet, The Elder Statesman—the list is endless. I’m also really into South Korea at the moment and I can’t wait to visit later this year.

If you could only buy two items this season, what would they be?

A Sies Marjan pink jacket and a Prada feathered skirt.

What on-screen aesthetic do you love?

"Twin Peaks: Fire Walk with Me" by David Lynch. I love how the styling of the original series is still relevant today.

What is the shoe of the season?

Those insane Saint Laurent crystal slouch boots.

And the bag of the season?

The Gucci belt bag.

If you could raid someone’s closet (dead or alive), whose would it be?

Stevie Nicks or Anita Pallenberg.

What advice do you have about packing for fashion month?

Plan ahead of time. I always try not to over-pack, but this means making lists prior to the start of the season of what looks are coming in and then coordinating them.

What’s the one fashion rule you always follow?

Make sure you can walk in heels before you buy them—there’s nothing worse than seeing someone walk awkwardly in a pair of stilettos.

What’s a fashion rule you like to break?

I’m not sure what the rules are these days but I’m a big fan of clashing and mixing things up—be it prints, colours or an awesome skater-style hoodie paired with big, bold crystal earrings.

What item can’t you stop buying?

Inappropriately high and very colourful shoes.

What would you like to change about the fashion industry?

The ratio of female CEOs to male.

What item of clothing would you save in a fire?

My grandmother’s old Chanel jackets.
